Keyless entry on 84'

My lock / unlock setups are pretty good, especially with clean door and hatch pins. I think keyless would work for me.
But the 28 year old alarm contacts, that's a different story. Kudos to those who still have reliability. Mine all look like this and its a PITA to clean them up:

Landseer: I've seen some like that and they did clean up. They didn't look very smooth after removed the corrosion but they ended up working reliably.

BTW - mine has been installed since ~2001 and still works perfectly - can't imagine not having it.
Mine locks/unlocks and simultaneously arms/disarms, it supports hatch release (with manual interlock) either alone (dedicated button) or with doors (double click), turn signal (always) & horn (optional) confirmations , auto window close feature and panic alert.
Really not a complex install - no hassles, no reliability issues.
The biggest issue is cosmetic - the key fobs look beaten up a bit from 10 years of continual daily use, I may replace them.

I suspect that you do not have issues with the installation because you are smarter than the average pro wrench on electrical issues.

Lemme dig up the model I have in MY 81 that works fantastic and has so for years with only tapping in to the harness to trigger the pulse signals.

Ive now installed the keyless entry. It controls both the central locking and the original Porsche alarm.
One thing, my CE panel did for some reason not have the ''Z'' contact. Not the ''Y'' either. It stopped on ''X''. Even the wiring diagram for 84 model says it should have both ''Y'' and ''Z''.
Thanks for your input!

Nice work! That was fast.
Z is a short black plug, only 6 electrode positions, beneath a set of three heavy positive wires (red).
Its in the center of the panel, perhaps deliberately out of sequence.
Best to be familiar with it so you can bypass alarm when, not if, it fails.
Jumper shown, Z4 to Z6, is only for 1984 MY, btw.
This is verified for 84 on the periphery of the 84 CE panel diagram, where a line linking two terminals represents the jumper plug connections on a non-alarm 1984 car.
Y is just to the left of it -- used for anitlock IIRC, which some of the 84's like my Euro have.

OK - this deferred install has been going on for years now...
Tell you what - I plan to be at Sharktoberfest this 2012 - bring the GTS, and a commando KE 40 unit. Make sure the passenger seat comes out easy and we will install it while you are there... doors/hatch/horn/turn signals...
You bring the well stocked bar!

Will coordinate with you as we get closer to next year's SF.
Do you have a suggestion on best on-line place to source the unit?
Thanks!
