Default 1985 928 Battery

Is the large Bosch battery that came in my 1985 928S still available?
It seems that a long battery like that is the only thing that will reach between the 2 cables.

Can always get a longer (aftermarket) ground cable, saves weight over the larger battery.

Last long battery I bought for my early '86 was a Diehard Gold from Sears. came with the vent tube for venting the gases out of the battery box. A shorter battery would not be such a good idea as it would slide around in the box. Better to get the right one so you can use the stock battery tie-down clamp.

Depends on the caliber and use of the car.
I remember a lengthy recurring thread..though it may have been on Porschefans ..about which series battery had a smaller/lighter footprint but met the other specs. Using a block of wood or less conductive spacer to secure it is not a big reach.
Its not the path that I took, ....I opted for Sears too, Int'l series I think.
Take home point is that like anything else, the batteries are type-coded for size, post location, CCA etc and once you get that info you can go to the retailer or manufacturer of your choice and get one ordered.
If its the Bosch specifically that you want info on, I guess we aren't being much help...need to get the specs (which aren't handy to me atm) and then consult the source.

I've bought two Duralast batteries from Autozone, for two different '85s. Both worked well & were a perfect fit, no problems with the cables reaching. Both matched the size of the Interstate batteries they replaced. Also bought one for our '91, same results.

Keep shopping for the right size with the right hold-downs. Most FLAPS recommended a battery that was too short. (O'Reily, Autozone, NAPA) Finally a counterman at a CarQuest got out the paper catalog and found the right model. On the shelf in back.

Pep Boys had the exact Bosch battery GROUP SIZE 49
$124.00 with tax and 5.00 core charge.

The car actually runs better with a new battery.

anyone ever insulate the battery box or wrap the battery?
Not with one of those plug in things, more like under hood insullation to protect from the cold.

On the outside the battery box is shielded from exhaust heat. I think excess heat is a greater concern than freezing cold temps.
