Default Day 11. Yeah Baby - Biggest Problem is solved

Got up, checked for any leaks, put on the brake sensors that the last guy butched. Added the PorKen Clamp and finished all the plastic body parts... tires and put her on the ground for the first time since I got the title.

Fired up as expected and took her for a drive.... .... ... no problems at all for power. Ran is slow up to about 60 through the auto gears. Then got on it. All the power you expect from an 89 S4!!!!!!!! whooo-hoooo!!!

I need to add some juice to the tranny since I know there is that slow drip and now the interior work. Power Passenger window first. I have plans next weekend and I want to drive her for the small road trip

I am going to hold off on all the stereo and sound stuff until the Shark Goodies and console are finished. Still need to figure out why the clock is on all the time. I think I will just pull the fuse for now and work it with the new radically redesigned console

I will add more pictures when I get the interior in. Thank you too all for the help so far. A lot more I want to do to make her perfect over the next many months.

Day 11 continued. New power window motors are in for both doors. New switch for the mirrors is in, but they are still not working. I will chase this issue once I have the Aero Mirrors on.

I did find the battery drain issue. The glove box wire close sensor had a pulled free wire so all the lights were on (could not tell because they were to off) and the door red lights were on and could not tell. Clock is still on, but not sure if that is a big drain or not. Will work that later.

Need to put the seats in. Not sure how much more tonight, but it is so close I might and then final picture time.

11 days of marginal work has paid off. Down to one issue of concern (anti-lock brakes not operational - I will start a new thread on this issue) then just typical 928 issues I had on the other two that I slowly knocked out (trunk pulls, clock, dimmer switch for instrument cluster - did not fix that yet on the 79, stereo, brake light out, tranny drip, etc).

Fun fun fun...

Are you saying the clock stays on all the time when the battery is disconnected? Because it's normal for it to remain on when the battery is connected. And it will take months for it to drain a battery. If the battery dies in a much shorter period, then something else is draining it.

No... only when the battery is connected. Would be interesting if it stayed on without.

I found my issues with the clove box "close switch"...

Drove it a fair amount yesturday. Filled the tank today and gas leaked out somewhere when the tank was full. It did not leak from the fuel level sentding spot on the top, so I must have left a hose disconnected somewhere... I will find it tonight.

The lack of lights in the cab when the headlights are on stinks. The gauges and the heating/cooling does not light up. Makes me think fues or relay. Will figure out this week... maybe. The blown fuse with the anti lock brakes cincerns me a little. Put a new fuse in and it popped as I put it in. I must have a pinched wire somewhere. I do not recall this not being working before I started the work.... ... That I will work tonight with the gas leak.

This is more fun that anyone should be allowed to have. Beats the hell out of saduko for brain training

The interior lights not working is most likely tied to the dimmer wheel - try making a small bridge and bypassing the dimmer wheel, especially if the gauge cluster lights all work when the lights are off (which they should in an 89+).

They do, so I will give that a shot when I get home. Why do these stop? Can they be cleaned and RnR'd?

You will see why they stop when you pull it. Can be cleaned with positive affect, but new is the way to go with this one.
Are you overhead and door interior lights working?

Yes. There is a little play with the passanger door, but they all work good. I need to clean the door triggers.

Consider those a replacement item. They have a shelf-life.

You'll be squirreling with them every year if you don't.

Will do. I already ordered the dimmer switch.... and a damn gas cap gasket. Failed emissions because mine was gone. Good thing I have two 89s

The clock is supposed to be on at all times when the battery is connected.

I think that before long you may have the nicest 928 convertible on the planet. I was hoping it would eventually be mine (now that Randy's old car seems to be out of the picture), but even given another 5 years or so I am not gonna have the kind of time and energy you are putting in. Good Job.

I was just review in this early post Emerald, and I noticed that the item you marked as Ground Point IV is not in fact IV. I believe it is the radio suppressor/ground for the wiper motor. GP IV is actually on the left side of the steering column:

I had a quite a time finding it myself and there is confusion in the historic posts. The number of brown wires to the actual ground IV make it pretty clear what it is when you finally find it.

Thanks. My body, hands, back, etc have been telling me that I am too old for this... but my mind keeps me at it.

Groovy. I will get to that one when I do the center console. I thought I recalled your post on that and thought it was another ground... I have found a few spots that I thought were support grounds that I have cleaned along the way as well. All but one so far has been very nice. They all will be at some point.

I have all the seats back in and everything, less the under pans are in. I even added the antenna to the rear and a third break light... No stereo, but I can just listen to the motor for a while

I still have a lot of work on the interior leather to make it like it should be, but I will work that after this coming weekend. Its road trip time for next weekend.
