Default What do you think of these wheels or should I find orignals for '91 928 S4?

Blew a tire in back so its time to replace all tires. My original wheels on the car are too "chewed up" according to no less than 4 wheels restorers plus one has already been repaired so its not something any of them recommended to do again.

Here is where I need some forum input. Got the car in August and everything but the stereo was original with 37k miles. No mods, great interior, average exterior. Did standard replace TB, WP, etc....... Tires had tread but were dry rotted obviously.

I cant find "period" correct 1991 928 S4 wheels that aren't at extortion prices and shipping makes them even costlier plus I've had a damn hard time finding non race tires of the original 16" size and worried it will get even harder.

By the time I potentially found some originals, got new tires and had them shipped and installed in Atlanta the price difference would only be about $800 -$900 dollars less than from buying new, modern and more attractive (IMHO) wheels.

Should I just bite the bullet and spend the extra $1000 ( I don't have an unlimited budget) to get an updated look, wheel, and 18" tires on a car that i probably wont change much else from being as original as possible?

I plan on keeping the car for awhile for now but when, or if I sell, the car it will still have very low miles, been very well maintained AFTER I bought the car.

Will the next buyer of a 928 like that want a as close to original car since most of it will be that way or will the market expand since the updated look creates a bigger market? No need for me to keep the old wheels for the potential next buyer because they are dead.

Also, what do think about these wheels?

I have always believed " PUT ON WHAT YOU LIKE OR LOVE THE LOOK ) and if you are worried about the next buyer keep your eye out for a set of originals. Its your car please yourself.

P.S. Nice car

Buy what you like now and don't worry about the next owner. Your correct, 16" tires are getting very hard to find in the correct sizes and will most likly get even harder. Even some of the 17" are starting to get hard to find in the correct aspect ratio. If the wheels in the pic are 18's then that is what I would get.

What they say ^^^^^^ There are plenty of correct-fitting and attractive 18" wheels out there that will bring your S4 into a 2011/12 contemporary style. Do it for you. The next person who may purchase your automobile some day, can do what they want for themselves..........then.

I like the wheel in the first two pics but, like others have said; put the wheel/tire combo that suits you.

16's ride much better in normal cruising.

You can't see the wheels when driving.

I too like the wheels in your first photo and agree, I'd be buying whatever you personally prefer. Might as well get something a bit individual.

Love those white 928's!

FWIW my car came to me with a set of brand new summers on the original 16" wheels. I chose to go with a set of 18" all-seasons and retain the original wheels for the next owner, primarily because the the wheels are factory painted to match the car. Someone may appreciate that in the future, who knows.

As everyone says, pick the wheels _you_ like. I chose a set of Panamera take-offs from flea bay and have been very happy so far.

White cars rule!

GL and choose wisely

..., I agree, I think the 928 suits meaty looking alloys, thats why I fitted the 17inch cup,s to mine.., sorry but I don,t think those "spoke pattern" wheels suit a 928.

The wheels in the first 2 pictures take 10 years of age off of the 928.. I have those in black 19s on my 996...
