OK - as requested. There will be 3 posts. One to show how I took the pictures (this one) followed by two posts of the untouched pictures.
Pictures below show which belt I am using, it is the factory new belt and the last iteration of cam drive belts issued in 1991 for 1991-95 cars. It supercesddes all other belt numbers for the 32v motor.
Pictures below show I wrapped the new sprocket fully and clamped it at the bottom with a hand clamp.
The photos were taken by a Canon digital SLR model SX20IS 12.1 Megapixel camera, using a Canon 20x1.5-100.0mm 1:2.8-5.7 lens. Of course, they have had to be resized down to allow to be uploaded.

Has anyone already mentioned this?
That we would expect a brand-new belt on a brand new sprocket to sit just a little high. I am sure that after they are run together for 100 miles, if they were photographed again you would see that the extraneous little pennants on the sides of the belt (where it was cut to width) would be gone, and the every tooth of the belt would be seated deeper in the cogged groove. New belt on new sprocket is pretty much a worse-case scenario. They haven't run-in yet.
But anyway - there's your pictures.

Good pictures - So am I the only one seeing all the gaps on the Flennor belt and Carl's cam gear.
The 04 with Gates factory fresh belt has no gaps what so ever. Belt tooth fits perfectly to the form of the gear tooth.
Not trying to be negative but if the cam gear teeth were machined to the exact profile of the 04 gear why are there gaps and pretty big gaps at that. Some of the teeth on the belt look very distorted.
To make sure we have apples for apples I will order the Flennor belt and repeat the 04 pictures using the Flennor belt.
What made you use a Flennor belt as they are not OEM to Porsche on the round tooth design. They were OEM on the square tooth. WorldPac are the only supplier of the Flennor belt and ceratinly not OEM. However Gates did buy Flennor recently.

Roger it isn't the belt - _ would like to run a Fischer-Price belt.

Comparing the high res of your 04 gear and Carls gear it appears to me that something may have got lost in the laser translation. I assumed at the outset they were identical.

Wouldn't a worn gear with a new belt be the worst case scenario? I suppose there will be some "breaking in" when a new belt is installed but what is too much? I'm sure everyone here knows that the older a sproecket is, the larger the gaps become and more time it takes to mesh in.

I think contact area under load will be problem if and when there is empty space when belt is not loaded. Either contact area will be smaller than it should or belt needs to deform more for same area.
