How does her belly look ???
I think it looks very good. Complete. Needs MM / OPG, probablyTB/WP, cam seals, etc.
Aluminum ball joint carriers? Thought that ceased in 82? No biggie either way.
(EDIT/correction --- aluminum lower carriers were fitted through early 1984 model year)
If interior and exterior are very good (meaning seats not torn, some dash cracks, straight body, original paint) there is certainty that it runs, shifts and tracks well, it could be a very good car at $3.5- $4-$5. These had the 4 speed auto --- great trans.
You aren't likely going to find a gold standard maintained car, any year, at that price without longterm searching.

David, glad you like the colour. It's called Petrol Blau Metallic. That is the original paint.
The clean spots make it look as though the bottom has had a quick once-over with a pressure washer. That will remove "wet" oil leaks while leaving the "dry" areas dirty. Makes it tough to tell what is really leaking...
put a magnet on one to see for sure. I also thought that Al ball joints were switched over in MY82. Maybe an early 83 production run?
Hmmm... I was just going by the shape. My understanding is that all steel carriers have the figure 8 shape to save weight due to the steel. The ones pictured look oblong as per aluminum.

You guys are absolutely right. It has aluminum and needs to be replaced.
Change was made in Sept 1983 well-into the 1984 production run.
(see post 11 in this link)
Steel looks like figure 8. Aluminum doesn't.

The interior and topside are remarkable, although perhaps more shots will reveal some issues. Had I only seen these two pics I would not have questioned the $6k price all that much. BUT we did see the bottom. There's a lot of work to do down there, although other than the ball joint carriers, maybe there is nothing all that urgent. The aluminum ball joint carriers are a serious safety hazard. How many miles on the car? The carriers MAY still be in good shape, but they definitely need to be changed out soon. I would at least use that, the OPG (+/- motor mounts), rusty exhaust and whatever routine maintenance items that are overdue (e.g., timing belt, plugs, plug wires, distributor rotor & cap, belts, hoses, tranny service, brake fluid flush, etc.) as negotiating points. Figure $4-5K to remedy these items if they were not done. This would not include unexplored items like shocks, axles, tie rods, ball joints, maybe a bent wheel or two, TT bearings, TC bearings, wheel bearings, whatever electrical quirks may need attention. You get the idea. This is a 28 year old car - expect a host of things to address judging by the untouched bottom side.
