Default FS: 80 928 Euro - CL San Diego

No affilliation what-so-ever. Has been for sale for awhile. Thought someone might be interested. I think it is about a 2k car.

What do you all think? Im trying to learn about pricing these cars.

****CL Link Here****

From the ad:

1980 Porsche 928 for sale.

The car is in overall good condition. The engine/transmission are flawless, and the car runs very strong. Miles are approximately 120,000. Odometer stopped working around 66,000

I'm the 3rd owner of this car. Have all maintenance records. Water Pump and Timing Belt were replaced Jan 2003 and have approximately 30K since.

Tires replaced about 5K miles ago

Could probably use a paint job and some interior work.

This is a euro version, so the engine compression is higher. The transmission is a 5-speed manual.

Has tape/radio player with 12-CD Changer

Just added a new battery and had it registered last month (which is good until March 2012), passed smog easily. Clear title, and ready to drive away.

Methinks it's probably not an S engine in there...

Doesn't look like a Euro to me, either.

Don't know why they would go through the trouble of the Euro rear bumper cover if it is not a true Euro.

Steering wheel is 78/79...and it's hard to tell if those markers are added in or if US fenders were added (though the ones in back look stock US)..
Lots of questions for this one... need the VIN to decipher what it really is..

Edit..looking closer at the pics....the rear marker lights have been surface mounted so my guess is that US fenders were added and the rear markers were cut in and surface mounted (although the car still has a 78/79 steering wheel)..and cool old style sport seats..

How can you tell if the engine is not a euro motor if there is not pic of it ? It does have a euro rear bumper with rear fog light, but does have the usual US side marker lights. This may have been overlooked by the feds ? It does have the **** on the drivers side for the up & down adjustment of the headlights that the euros had that was made inoperable by the feds? There is also no rear hatch release in this year for the US or row cars ? There is no VIN # displayed, but it is an unusual color which lends itself to euro. Not your typical black, red, white, & silver standard colors ordered by most US dealerships ? .02 77Tony

Calif plates and registration, no BAR sticker on the doorjam, make it VERY unlikely a Euro.

If you click the pic in the ad you can get to a few more pictures. I see German language warning lights on the gauges. It looks to me like the running lights are after market but a euro fender would have a factory blinker behind the front wheel arch. Possibly welded this up for some reason. This is a no sunroof car by the way. It also only has a driver side rear view mirror. My guess is that it is a Euro but not a S with the 300HP.

Clicked through and saw the handbremse warning light, US speedo.

I've never seen seats like that, weird, front and back match though.

Two minutes in person would tell more than a lifetime of looking at the picts though.

I met the owner of this car today in San Diego. I only had about 15 minutes to look it over, so this is a pretty limited review. Euro "ZZZ" VIN, it's actually a 1981 although it's apparently titled as a 1980. 4.5L CIS with federalization frequency valve modification. weinrotmetallic. It looks like the importer replaced the front and rear quarter panels with the US versions and painted them to match. The clear coat on all 4 of these sections is a mess, so I guess that was a sub-par job, but it looks good from 50 feet. Owner says the car was sitting a couple years recently. I couldn't find a BAR sticker. Guy says he's the third owner. Can't explain the steering wheel, it also has a big rectangle cut out of the top, reason unknown. Aftermarket radio and alarm system. Odo is nonfunctional.

If the engine is actually strong (and actually a EURO engine) then pay $1500-$2000 for the engine and the wheels and toss the rest of it in the trash!

A euro 4.5 isn't worth it. not much of a HP differential from the US version..maybe 10hp... now if it is for some reason a 4.7 CIS euro...then yea... worth maybe 1Kish for the engine..

Yea, I was assuming it was an S engine...what would the point have been bringing in a EURO 4.5?! NONE! Could get the same thing cheaper and with far less hassle here already. That said, it may well be a 4.5 or it could be a spoiler delete S...

It is worth noting that the 80-82 "euro" 4.5's are 10:1 compression, unlike the 78/79's (which are 8.5:1).
