I cleaned the residue up with petrol on a rag I seem to remember. I then fitted the 928 Motorsports kit that is pre-cut to shape. Non stock but much more fire resistant I suspect- that foam just soaks u oil vapours over the years and then becomes a fire hazard- ask Randy V what he thinks of the stock foam system after his recent sad experience.

Regards

Rob's nitrile product is AAA+, I used 3M's adhesive remover & high temp adhesive for this job(got both from Grainger). I also did not remove my hood due to not wanting to deal with re-alignment. I covered the engine & dealt with fun of getting around up in close to the hinges. Please ignore the dust on the inside of my hood. Its been on my car for a few years & no problems(the liner, not the dust). Here's the links to Rob's product:

I used the insulation foam that Nicole (Hooked on Cars) sells. It has been on the hood for three years with no problems

Well - Just off ebay of course... has held up very well. The adhesive choice (for the foam) is very important high strength means nothing - you need high temp...!.

The vinyl decals had stayed on very well - nothing special there.

I used 3/8" nitrile foam - really thick. This has been on through 5 Phoenix summers - driven ~every day - pretty good soak test!

Hopefully not off-topic, but I noticed in several pics people have mounted the small front pad that comes with the replacement foam sets (mine came via Jager). I left mine off rather than cover the label the factory label on the hood. I noticed others have mounted the smaller pad as well but cut it to show the hood label. Does that front pad actually make any difference by any measure?

Back on thread - I mounted mine with high-temp 3M contact adhesive with the hood in place (lots of masking) after using PB blaster to remove some adhesive but leaving remainder per Roger.

Well its been on for more than 15 years now and it still looks like new.

https://www.wicksaircraft.com/shop/soundproofing-foam/

Mine was 3/8" but seems they no longer do that thickness. I think 1/2" would fit - tucking the edges more or 1/4" but that is a bit thin. Not cheap - but it really stands up over time and looks good
