Default Cam lobes rust: can these be cleaned?

Half the cam lobes have rust, these are the worst.

It won't be there after a few hours of running

I would be worried about how deep it goes.

I used these Scotch-Brite™ Hand Pads, 3M 400 grit

get them at your local auto store.

You will still need to inspect after you clean them to see how badly pitted they are.

It wont be through the hardening.
However do NOT run these cams in the engine until after they have been STONE cleaned/polished, by a professional in the business who is willing to taper the stone to the angle and knows about which way each cam is angled. I dont like the wear patterns on one of them either.

If you rotate the engine with these cams, you will destroy the lifters, and then the lobes will be worn off very quickly.

Are those standard S4 cams? I have a set of those I'm willing to bet I could sell you for less than the cost of repairing yours, although shipping might be pretty high. Shoot me an email if interested (I'll be out from tomorrow thru Thanksgiving but will have periodic email access).

Hi Benton, thanks for thinking with me - these are an extra set I have so it's kind of a "luxury problem".
