Paul,

I applaud your efforts to offer something that is not readily available. I did not vote because while I think I would go for an option like this, I believe the price point is too high (it is certainly too high for me).

I think there is a market out there for these, and i would probably buy it at the right price. I don't know what that price is, but it's less than $3500. Maybe $1700, maybe a bit more? Not sure. But when you can get a set of nice Corbeaus (don't flame me quite yet) for <$1,000.

I would challenge you to come up with a slightly more cost competitive version - or a value version that has similar elements, but less cost.

I hope this feedback helps.

I'd prefer the old style sport seats. They just seem to fit the classic GT shape of the 928, and the leather backing seems to be more in-line with the GT nature of the 928 as opposed to the hard backing.

As always, your work looks top notch - my 2012 budget plan is for you to redo my OB seats, and hopefully my dash.

Actually, what I am showing and presenting are 993 sport seats, which uses the all metal Recaro frame that is used in our 928, although modified.
These currently market, used for anywhere from $4000 to $10,000 depending on condition.

I'm confused, perhaps.

Don't 993 seats bolt right up in 928s?

It's the next generation (996/Boxster) that need custom mounts.

Apologies yes I see you are correct. 993 seats sell for insane prices. For me, I prefer the lighter 996 version.
The 996 and 993 are completely different under the skins. The 996 sport seat is based on the newer system, and is basically a plastic armature with webbing supports.
The 993 seats are based on a metal frame with spring suspension.

Is there enough room with this setup for the shoulder holes?

What do you think they will weigh?

I cant put my finger on it but there is something about the shape of those seats that just bugs me? ..dunno why? Id prefer the 928 sports seats even if they are heavier.

Is there a away to modify the 928 sports seats so they are lighter? As Tom said they are by far one of the most comfortable seats i have sat in.

Sometimes i cant see the forest for the trees....but then there are times when some stuff just pops right out at me. Its a curse i think.

Although probably possible, these seats were not designed to have holes in the backrest.
And with similar options, they would weigh basically the same as a 928 sport seat.

Again, this conversion is for those who want to update the look of their seats without compromising the quality.

And don't worry, for those who prefer the look of the 928 sport seat, I still do that conversion as well

Hey Tony,

the picture is of the prototype I'm playing with to try different combinations of textures and colors. It's not the finished article and only representative of one option.

yeah, i figured that, your work speaks for itself! It actually looks OK with it angled like that,...boths sides of course. Compliments the diagonal line of stitching next it.

I see the original seats as one of the defining elements of the 928 that I would not change beyond factory options and modern materials.

They look great.

How less-obscene would the cost of your seats be?

The other question is regarding comfort, as the 928 seat is acknowledged as being exceptionally comfortable after many miles of travel.

Here's a glimpse of the seats installed in the new Panamera GTS as a comparison:

I like the look Paul. I wish I could afford it but not this year. I also think it would be good to see what they would look like in a 928. I would want to see how it looks.

I agree with others comments that while your work makes those look great - I think that same treatment on a 928 comfort or sports seat just looks so much better in the car...

Great looking 928 seats are still a classic

I love standing at the back of the car with the hatch open - the view of the wrap around curve of the doors - to dash - and meeting at the console and the way it frames those classic shaped seats - Perfect !

These 993 seats just wouldn't work in that view...

And I do still want to get mine mine '1/2 sportified' - recovered, & cooled....
