New - 993 sport seat style for the 928

Hello everyone,

I'm trying to gauge the interest for a new project I'm working on.

The project is a 993 style sport seat conversion. 993 hardback sport seats are very sought after.
They are in fact much better than the Boxster seats, as they are based on a modified version of the same frame used on the later 928.
But used sets, even in poor condition go for obscene amounts.

The factory hardback is a plastic shell that is sometimes painted the color of the car, but most often only shows a metal flake plastic finish.

I am planning to offer a new conversion, from the 928 comfort seat, to the hardback sport seat.

My hardback will follow the same shape, but it will be made of carbon fiber, with the option of leaving the carbon as the finish, painting it to match the car, or covering the back in leather.

The original also does away with the spring suspension for the back. On my version, I plan on keeping the original suspension.

These conversions would be possible on any late 928 comfort seat, from manual to 12 way.

So basically, you can go from this:

To something like this:

I haven't pinned down all my costs yet, but the ballpark looks like $3500.00 for a conversion performed on your seats.
That would include:
  • Top quality leather covers with French seams
  • Carbon fiber hardback
  • Conversion of your frames
  • Conversion of the bottom bolsters to sport.
  • New factory upper foams
  • New sport bolsters for the seat portion.
  • Engraving of your choice.

Considering that new 993 hardbacks go from $4000 to $10,000 depending on condition, I though there might be some interest in this project.

Thanks for reading and I look forward to your comments.

Holy smokes Paul, that is awesome! If I weren't a poor man, I would be on the waiting list for a pair for my 993!

Sorry but they look very uncomfortable compared to the Recaro 928 seats.
Your workmanship looks awesome but the style is not for me.
Just my 0.5cents

They are actually very comfortable, but it's definitely for those who want that style.

In terms of comfort, I also forgot to mention that I am now at my second generation of sport bolsters for the seat portion. They are now laminated from different densities and while they offer the same support, are much easier on the thighs.

I dont think the shape of the 993 seat compliments the 928.

I like the overall shape of the 928 sport seat and the hardback of the 993 seat. Wish there was a way to combine the two...

That said, the quality of your craftsmanship is unparalleled - as always.

I could totally see those in Tony's GTS... ;)

:thumbsup:Purrfect !

As the 993 sport seats are hard to find and expensive, I recovered Recaro SRD's, but the recline mechanism on the later aftermarket Recaros is not up to Porsche OEM.

This offering would be the best of all worlds for the folks who want a sportier look with OEM quality !

I was actually just on your website and was going to email to ask about them. Looks like a very nice seat option. I think I might prefer the standard sport seat however.

On a side note, I added up the cost of what it is goingto cost me for all new cow in my car. WOW! Good thing I can do it in portions!

They just don't look like they'll "hug" you like original sport seats. Nothing like the originals in the 928..way better than any others I've sat in.

I do like the hard back concept though...

I might be tempted if there were holes for 4/5/6 point harness belts.......

Paul this is an excellent initiative. I was just thinking of contacting you today. I had a very similar project I wanted to run by you. I definitely want the hard back for its elegance and weight saving.
