I'm slowly taking the 'Shawshank Redemption' approach with amassing what it would take to make the 90GT a 100 point car- 1 or a few parts at a time, bought quietly, receipts dumped in the prison yard, slowly amassing bits until everything is in place where I could complete a sympathetic restoration back to as-new condition. I have an embarrassing amount of original rubber trim and gasket pieces in the garage...
The Shawshank Redemption plan. I like it! I'm already on it.

Some of the "Holy Grail" parts:
Early style H4's (already got it)
Early style door seals
Early style windshield, bronze w/west germany markings
Euro driving lamps and fogs (already got it)
HVAC head, 78-79 only, since superseded.
Early round analog clock, NLA
Later style left side driving lamp assy
Early fender w/o cutouts for US corner marker OR Euro sidemarker.
Early intake tubes
Clutch bits, 78-79 only
Sill plates, available but not for long

FWIW, I've got motorcycles that are as close to factory original as you can get. Hell, I own the first 36, 61 cubic inch Knucklehead ever sold to the public. And I ride it! As I try to ride all my bikes, and drive my cars. Just got to treat them like what they are. I can't see owning something, and not using it.

My Pantera is a work in progress, I'll never get the money I've spent out of it, cause I'm never gonna sell it. The cool thing about owning a Pantera is that it's value isn't about how original it is, it's about how many modifications have been done to it. And trust me, changing something as common as the wheels can cost 10K by the time everything is done correctly. 928 parts are cheap compared to anything on a Pantera.

I figure once you own it, you got the rest of your life to turn it into the car of your dreams. Being a biker, I live in a much different world than anyone on this forum. I don't have an ego, it's sitting at the curb, and always draws a crowd.

A short time ago, someone bought a Duesenberg, for over 10 million. Whats to say that the #6 928 won't fetch a cool million in another 30 years. I think as time goes on, the 928 will come into it's own, and be a real collectors item, and not just a niche car. I'm keeping mine as close to original as possable, but I'll get the carputer, when it's available, and keep all the orginal parts in boxes on the shelf.

I have to agree with Doc Brown, what it represents, and who's gonna see it.
