How does this intake increase 6 - 8 hp and 9 - 11tq ?
Is the original intake really THAT restrictive? The filter surface is large, and the intake of air comes from the front of the radiator. I would imagine the bottle neck to be the MAF / throttle body?

I am thinking those numbers might be possible but they will show up at high engine speed,
otherwise for street use,
the factory unit should work fine.
and quite possibly a loss of power after this unit has gotten a chance to heat
soak then the engine restarted.

They were across the spectrum, I don't have the dyno sheets anymore (crashed comp) but it was not just at the top end. They were dyno'd on 4 cars within a two hour period, on two S4's and two GTS's, with all showing the same increase in power. Same day, same time, same temps on hot motors. So, in short, it's not just "might be possible" it's the way it is.

I think the factory airbox is good, but the lid is flimsy (could just be on mine), and may be prone to sucking hot air in too regardless of the intake tubes feeding it from the cold area in front of the radiator.
