I added a new sync sensor on the opposite bank, spaced out the ref sensor and added a voltage table for the mag ref sensor. I have no idea what was causing the cutout but all of these things needed to be done.

Thanks for all the help, this thread has been an awesome display of knowledge. Big special thanks to Guy and John Gill.

Just for fun I spaced the mag ref sensor out until it acted up.
.115 additional spacing was the point at which it started showing spikes at cranking rpms.

Here's a pic of the new sensor mounting. I hoped to make a couple of extras to give to Guy and whoever else wanted one but the only other piece of material I had 'didn't make it' (in a spectacular way).
The new sensot is a Moetec (Honeywell) hall sensor available from guy. The target tooth is a piece added to a cut down S4 rotor.

Mike, that is absolutely beautiful!

Please let me know how much for one or preferably two of those covers/brackets.

Hey Mike - So is the problem solved? Do you think you can make a few of those?

I wont know if it's solved until it makes it through a race. The only other time I saw issues was at low rpms while lugging, such as turning around on my street. It would sometimes cutout then and also show sync oddness in logs. That doesn't happen anymore. The idea was that cam belt fluctuation was key.

I'm not going to make any of these anytime soon. I have suspension bits on the table and it's hard to fit any of these projects in lately.

It would be much simpler to mount a sensor on the face of a plate facing in line with the cam. In theory a perpindular mount is ideal because end play of the cam isn't a factor but a face mounting would probably be fine.
You may possibly be able to use stock S4 bits moved to the other bank but I don't like the S4 window wheel and sensor that has a tight gap for the wheel to fit into. It's also damn expensive.
I'll be glad to post more pics if anyone wants to tackle it.

BTW, an earlier mod was to drill new mounting holes for the stock S4 target wheel in an attempt to put the sync signal in a more favorable relation to the ref. I may have made things worse by doing that. Maybe the sync should not happen at certain places of valve timing events so as not to induce fluctuation? Just thinking out loud there.

Do Tell!

Anyway - I was planning on using the stock hall window sensor for cam, but I have some very solid aluminum plates that screw to the front of the cambelt covers. I can thread that anyway it would work with something steel but lightweight bolted to the cam wheel.
