Question Door glass replacement - I'm stuck

I removed the inside trim/seal but I can't get the new window through the gap in the door. The replacement window came with the metal bracket installed. Can anyone provide some tips? Thanks!

The glass is inserted in at about a 45 degree angle. There's a photo in WSM Vol 5, which shows the installation. To protect from scratches, make sure you mask off the paint work on the outside of the door.

remove the felt pads that run on the inside of the window they are along the bottom edge of the window opening then remove the inner window seal along the bottom edge of the window opening this will give enough clearance to fit the window

I got the glass into the door. I just needed another pair of hands to spread the door a bit.

Now I need to get the window to close evenly. It snags on the outside of the triangular guide in the front. I think the new felt pads are too big/stiff. Maybe it will loosen up in time.

ahh you also have adjustments on the white guide mounts,
if the mounts are also new then they are easy to adjust, as older mounts may have had the bolt holes slightly deformed from tightening thus the guides are hard to readjust.
To adjust the window first fit the felt pads then the inner window seal .
Then put the window up till its about 2 inches from the top,
then adjust the front back tilt so the window is even along its top edge,
then put the window up a bit more till it easily slides into the top slot.

NOTE the bottom guide is for in out tilt,
the top guide is for window tilt front to back
Also while your messing with the window see if you can add some oil to the arm pivot as this will let the window move easily up and down.
With the regulator in position and the inner window seal removed drip oil onto the arm pivot

The felt pads shouldn't make contact with the window glass once the glass is moved up from the bottom position. If they do, they need to be repositioned.

The white plastic guides are inexpensive and tend to break with age. So, they should be replaced with any window maintenance.

On a hopefully related note - the drivers door window in my '88 easily rocks forward and backward if manipulated by hand when partially up. Am I correct in assuming the white plastic guides are worn and need replacing, or is there some way to tighten them on the guide tube?

It could be that on your car, the fasteners holding the window guides in place are loose. But more likely they are worn or broken. You will need to remove the door panel to find out.

Some have inserted nylon stay ties between the guides and guide tube in order to remedy any excessive clearance, but this is just a band aid fix.

Thanks Borland. Guides visible. It indeed appears to be wear - the guides move visibly against the tube. I now understand the reference to nylon ties, versus the felt guides which are completely different and located at the top inside of the door. I had initially, incorrectly assumed there was felt in the white guides.

the white window guides are rather inexpensive but sort of a paint to install.
as the center tube must be removed.
If your going this far,
its best to remove the lift mechanism and take it apart,
to lube the arm pivot,
also take the motor apart and clean it out and add fresh lube
