Default Problems with new clutch

I just had a local shop install a new clutch in my 80 928S EURO and am having some issues.

First it does not go into 1 or R easily and after driving doesn't go into 1 or R at all without major grinding...so I've been starting in 2nd.

Downshifting from 3rd to 2nd without double clutching results in major clutch shuddering.

I'm taking it back to the shop who did the work tomorrow but should they be looking for anything in particular?

Sounds like a cable adjustment issue....

You might want to ask a mod to move this to the 928 forum for expert advice.

It is not adjusted right, or it will not stay in adjustment.
Was the clutch master cylinder replaced?
What parts were installed?

Sounds to me like your mechanic did not adjust the intermediate plate correctly, or the H adj are sliding around too much.
It is also possible that the clutch hydraulics have an air bubble, or are not functioning 100%

^^^ what Greg & Colin said ...
Classic symptoms of intermediate plate not adjusted correctly. When the plate is adjusted properly it will release both friction plates ... when not centred it'll hang on to one of the plates (often the back one) and give you all those symptoms of a clutch not totally releasing.

Probably either a bubble or non centered intemediate disk. I also have had an issue where worn splines on the stub shaft caused the clutch to not disengage all the way. I would start by attacking the air bubble possiblity by burping it, because that is a pretty common problem and the solution is free. Search for details of that here. Did the clutch master of slave cyls get changed?
