Default Pklamp installed, no pressure and perfect end play

Well I finally got to my flex plate today, and to my surprise there was no pressure on the plate and the crank end play was .1mm.

Now I can sleep at night.

Video of the release.

.1 mm is very very tight. If you used a caliper, the actual measurement might be different from using a micrometer. Anyway, it is looking good.

It was a digital micrometer, it only goes to single decimal. So actuall measurement could be .1 something.

How did you measure that, that is less than what it should be.
Did you unbolt the flex plate?
A dial indicator is the tool for that job, not a mike IMHO.

I didnt un-bolt the flex plate, just had the pinch loose. Was that wrong?

It would make the clunk noise fore and aft. Since my measuring device only does one decimal point, the measurement could easily be .18 mm

Edit, I just checked my digital caliper. It is only accurate to + or - .2mm. I will have to get a better unit for next time.

I have been told you shouldn't use your torque wrench for loosening bolts, only for setting torque.

p.s. time for the oil pan gasket, use the silicone gasket and studs with lock nuts instead of the oem screws.

I always unbolt it, and slide it back so the TT can not impede the for/aft travel of the crankshaft.
And if you can hear it go clunk, I would check it again, and soon.

Yeah, get a dial gauge and magnetic base. Nothing terribly expensive is needed. Harbor Freight has both for a little over $20.
