Default Whats underneath the headliner vinyl covering?

Had my headliner out to deal with some end warping. The old vinyl looks okay but is stiff. It is so hard that I can tell if there is an underlayment (foam) or if it is glued directly to te backer board. I have not tryed to peal it off till I was ready to recover.

Anyone pulled the vinyl off and done a recover? Is it as simple as pulling the old and glueing new vinyl to the headliner board, please say it is so!

Thanks

I started to do a headliner re-cover, but abandoned it because I didn't have a good sunroof bezel. Ended up getting a replacement headliner from 928Intl. When I was working on the re-cover, though, I spoke with Rob Budd, and he gave me the impression that (other than the sunroof bezel) it was pretty straightforward. One catch is that you need to get some HHR (high heat resistance) contact cement. Regular contact cement will melt on a hot day.

Fortunateyl I have a non-sunroof model so sounds like one less thing to worry about.

Did you get to the vinyl removal part? What was under the headliner cover material?

Thanks for the feedback

I've got one in the shop I'm doing now.
There's nothing under the vinyl or leather, just the substrate of pressed fiberboard.

How do you get the pressboard or what ever it is back into the correct shape?
