i recently changed the motor oil from 5w30 to 20w50, not only the motor is quiet, no tapping noise and oil pressure is at 4 after the car is warmed up at idle. but an amazing thing is i used to have drips and drips of oil under the front of car and now i have a coin size of one or two little mark on floor, is it possible?

For some strange Minnesotan reason, I'll run 5w40 in the winter. If it's 0C or above then go with the 20w50. The manual shows what Porsche thinks about weights and temperature ranges.

Your oil change place probably doesn't stock the thick oil these cars like in the first place.

 

you are right they don't stock 20w50, i think it's ok our winter here is not that cold and i park underground so start up should be ok.

 

The only time I've had a problem was with a Pontiac 455 H.O. in 25 below zero farenheit. (Yes really). 20-50 Castrol wasn't a good idea. We had to heat the oil pan for an hour and then all was well.

Where you are, and underground, I wouldn't worry about it unless you're planning a February trip to Terrace, and even then......

 

You may want to check out special ordering the Brad Penn 20-50 race oil "The Green Oil"...it's got the additives (ZDDP etc.) to protect the engine, and I can source it here fairly easily.

There are of course, many different opinions out there, but after reading and learning way more than I ever needed or wanted to know about engine oils, I've had no issues with this choice.

 

15w50 all year but I dont drive the car in -30 weather.

Diesel truck gets driven all winter and it runs on 5w40 no worries.

 

You can get Castrol GTX 20w50 at Canadian Tire.

 

Porsche doesn't have glow plugs either I suspect.......

 

Yes you can...and I would recommend Castol for any number of applications....and used it for years in my bikes and GM products,....but....


Wait a minute. Where you live, I'm guessing the starter is already having issues in the morning.......

 

Make that CASTROL.

 

I dont believe they glow rob but there are times when shes firing quite rapidly

yes it is very possible!!! when my car had the correct oil in it there was no leakage at all. At the moment i have light flushing oil in it (its on stands with no front suspension at the moment) and its dripping
