Default C/L 85 EUro...low miles, high price

Sorry to put up a C/L listing, but seems like it could be an uncommon find...but the price...

No affiliation whatsoever...but I could check it out next week if anyone has interest.

I don't see the vin working anyplace but pet7 even with the O corrected to 0, WP0ZZZ92ZFS841019 . Carfax and autocheck both reject it, but pet7 was ok with it. Dealer listing says something about a MA vin, but doesn't show it all.

Somebody should say Show me the Carfax. If it wasn't imported properly and/or not registered in 20 years, could have some serious issues.

Motor is M28/21 16v and it has LSD.

On CL as for sale by owner, some of those have been flagged, dealer actually selling it, asking $20k.

No interior picts.

Looks like no sunroof. Too bad its at a dealer asking $20k.

If that car is pretty well perfect (and it should be with 36k miles) then it might be worth the $18k... to someone anyway.

Looks pretty good in those totally crappy pics. Looks to have been imported properly as it has the added US side marker lights...

Just opinion

That's a manual Euro 85.

If its preserved such that it has a long driveable life ahead of it, then I agree with a higher rather than lower price.

Not as high as the 6600 mile USA 86.5 black car, but certainly in the teens.

Were there no nicer options for aftermarket side markers at the time? These things look like truck lights from the auto store around the corner... a 928 deserves better!!! Perhaps they could be replaced with more modern LED type marker lights.

You don't have to go far down the "if it" list before many of us would be writing a check even at $20k, but a realistic expectation of the actual from a used car dealer can be pretty sad. 36k on the US odometer and another 100k on the seats etc. No Carfax makes me think its been sitting maybe 20+ years and that will take some cash to revive.

No way that car will ever be registered in Calif, so its a non starter for me.

High price? Compared to what? That's cheaper than a SMART car.

I think when a grey market car was directly imported into MA, the state assigned it's own VIN for registration and title. I suspect that MA26738 is the complete state issue VIN. I believe Brad's (tilac999) 85 Euro has a similar state issued vin, with an "official" engraved metal sticker in the door jamb.

My 84 Euro was imported into OH and titled in PA when I bought it, using the Porsche ZZZ VIN. When I registered it in MA, the VIN was invalid in their system, but I was able to have it verified by an LEO, and got it titled using the ZZZ VIN.

Point of all this is - maybe there will be a carfax or autocheck hit using MA26738.

Nice looking, desireable car - only about 10 miles from me.

As for mileage accuracy, knowing the import date would be helpful. If it was imported as new (as was mine), and the MPH odometer has worked consistently () since that time, then the mileage is likely correct. Of course, service records need to support mileage, as does condition, carfax, etc.

However, in this case, the seller states the car was bought new in Italy. So, when was it imported to the US, and how many miles were covered before the MPH spedometer/odometer was installed? (Italy uses KPH, right?)

Exactly true. I've owned two Porsches with MA VIN numbers. ZZZ VINs are ROW numbers and the registry computer (here in MA and probably other states) won't acceptand that sequence.

Some shops that did federalization conversions went the whole nine yards; front and rear markers, rear bumperettes, cats, 02 wiring, inner door beams, etc. Where they went for the side marker lights is beyond me but I've never seen an elegant solution. I was lucky and only had my speedo swapped to MPH!
