Just in the last 2 weeks, there was a very nice 78, 50,840 mile on on ebay last week. The high bid was $ 8600 and it did not sell, and the "Buy it Now" was $ 10,997. There was also a 79, 59,000 mile Euro with Pascha (redone) with only 59,000 miles that did not sell at $ 3750. Prices are all over the place. 77Tony
Second one Tony mentions... Not in the ballpark, in particular, due to the fact is was repainted. Original paint, IMHO commands a huge premium.
My guess is there was more holding back this car (Been FS for a while).
Then there's this one, sold on German Bay, talked about on RL here.
No Reserve auction, sold for EUR 8.550,00 (USD 11,705)

The 1st one is a 78-therefore the first year and presumably worth more than a 79 ? The 2nd one is not as nice, but it's a low mileage euro (+ more hp?). The seller definetly did a nice job listing the 79 Brown car on ebay now-that does help. As noted earlier, the 79 brown car on ebay does have aftermarket exhaust, undercarriage painted black. a few scrathes, etc. Not a big deal, bit the 1st one-the 78 appears to be all original ? T

Diff. btw 3rd owner and orig. owner, at least from a buyer's perception POV.
The black 78 is nice, but does not present like a "no questions asked" car.
It appears a little more tired, relatively speaking (giving huge creedance to the fact these are both 33-34 yr old cars).
From black 78 seller's ad:
Nice original car. Paint looks and shines great but does have a few minor flaws here or there. Interior excellent with the exception of the headliner is loose above the drivers rear seat. Cargo cover has a tear. Tires are 50%. Brakes are good, but lining light stays on.
Def. agree re. sellers presentations are night and day different, mocha 79 clearly much better.
I don't thing the market deliniates btw 78 & 79, yet. So, generally speaking, I would not assess a premium for 78 (unless really early) However, I believe it will make a diff someday.
Well ****, I guess I do have an opinion.
EDIT: the mocha requires little to make it orig. again. Short money. BUT, the painted undercarriage is the big wildcard, like you said.
God forbid he went crazy with the rattle-can, wheel wells, etc. Could really hold it back.

The one on ebay is presented very well, doesn't hurt to get second prize in a concours , but over $10 and hasn't hit reserve plus the zero ID on bidders would make me treat it as a fishing exercise.

I listed a 2009 S.E. H-D Road Glide on ebay last year with great pics and creative script. It was nearly identical to two others with almost exactly the same mileage, color scheme etc. Mine sold really quick for the "Buy it Now" and the others were still for sale a week later. Presentaion is a biggie, espeically if you cannot be there to view the vehicle. The 79 brown car does show well with great pics, and a great story to go with it. I do hope it does go for top $$ because these cars are worth it .02. 77Tony

I think the black one looks like it's in the same league as the brown, though the duct tape cover as the washer fluid reservoir cap is not encouraging. The painted porsche crest on the intake and the silver crest on the hood appear to be the only mods. It has exactly the same cork with tenis (cream with black stripes) interior as mine; I've never seen another 928 with that interior, rare.

As of yesterday, bidding was up to $12,800... but was retracted at $13,000 today. Reason: could not contact seller.
So, back to $12,100 with less than a day left.

I don't know what that means ^^, the 928 was never a luxobarge, never a choice between an SL and a 928. I was being kind to fcars when I compared this 928 price to the 308. The 928 was a better car in every respect to the 3X8's. The 928 was always in the running with the TR.
Read some previous threads, like the nardo top speed runs, the magazine comparisons of the day. And I was there in showrooms in 1980 comparing these cars. Even the European press agrees.
The 928 had the most luxury, no doubt, but it also was at the very top for performance, and build quality. Fcars had the marketing.
