sometimes the back of the pack is the place to be.
I was able to get a running start at it a couple of times, still the speeds were low, we actually went faster on the parade lap, if that is what you want to call what they did.

Was great to meet you guys and see your cars, despite the total cluster @#$% of the rest of the event.

Default Good day/bad day

Greg was right. Couldn't have been more poorly run, however, a "a bad day with you 928 and 300 other Porsches on a 1.54 mile NASCAR oval is better than,,,," you know the rest.

Probably 350-400 cars. Maybe more. 10 or so 928s. A few new guys like myself did enjoy meeting some of the more "seasoned" Rennlisters and Greg brought freakin' donuts. Not a bad start but probably not too exciting for the more tenured 928 guys.

Run down of the day.

Checked and sat on our asses for 2.5 hours starting around 9. They didn't group us at all. No signs but a few of us found each other and a few other 928s weren't that far away. Finally moved from staging area to some kind of half *** "hot" circle on he close streets outside the track. Greg's right I went faster longer there than on the inside. Originally we were suppose to parade through the town nearby. Not sure what happened.

A small band of 928s (maybe 6-8) stayed near the back. Waited another hour as some kind of NASCAR ride along was happening on the track in front of us.

We were then suppose to take a slow lap or two as a "group" (meaning ALL cars) around the track and then stage for some pictures. Again the cars weren't grouped?!

We did one lap and they stopped us all on the track which is what you see in Greg's last picture. We stopped, had a helicopter fly over us for some shots and then what little driving fun we had ensued.

Most of everyone had paid an extra 30 bucks for what we thought was a private or semi private run later. However about 1 lap into it we realized this was all it was going to be and Greg's right when he said being in the back has its advantages.

We'd slow in the strait aways (yeah seems backwards I know) as there were 350 plus cars in front of us and then punch it in the 24 degree banked turns. Hit 110 a couple of times but that was about all. Funny to have cops who were posted at the bottom of the track on the strait ways yelling at us to go faster on the straits after they figured out we were letting the pack move away so we could hit it in the turns a few times.

Dangerous as heck actually. No helmets, no instructions, no guidance and 350 plus Porsches who had been sitting for 3 plus hours let loose on a track with all of realizing at once this was the highlight of the day.

Passed a family in a Boxter, top down, with maybe a 3 year old riding on the lap of the passenger if you want an idea of the chaos. Picture them running next to the couple of GT3RS that were out there too.

Highlight is on the last lap dropping down to the middle of the step banked turn with some speed with a couple of other 928s and smiling at some 993s near the wall who realized too late we were coming by fast carrying speed. Wish I had a pic of that expression. Too late for them to recover before we caught the pack having to hit breaks hard to curb speed.

Again for a new guy that last lap might have been worth the day but the sad fact is that the event really could have been a good one.

Nice to meet you guys yesterday.

We figured out what the deal was with the laps. the pace car did do five laps, but with us being the tail of the pack they had all ready made three laps by the time we got on the track, a couple of crowded laps then they stopped every one for the group picture.

Nanook, of Atlanta. It was cold, and look at the streamer how the wind is blowing it.

I'm pretty sure they like donuts too.

Note to self: strip the prize giveaways, tech sessions and fun run from the next event.... just offer donuts.

Nice pics Greg!

More pics before I go to work.
As you can see they were all ready counting down the five laps at this point, it took us at least 20 more minutes to get on the track, I felt sorry for the guys that were out in front, it is not very comfortable to go so slow on that banking.

Sorry for having so many pictures, but we had lots of time just sitting with nothing to do as you can see by these folks that got out to stretch while waiting to get on the track.

Cool pictures. Out of all the very cool cars and people, whooda thunk I would have the only 924S.
We had fun besides the glaring mismanagement, but I had very low expectations. I think that the guys who traveled a lot further (I drove 5 hours)and payed for things that didn't exist have a right to be pissed. I bet the venders and sponsers are REALLY pissed.
I'll post up some of my picks this evening.
I met a lot of nice people and some of you here may have been among them...thanks for bringing your cars and hanging out.
