Default Need help diagnosing sunroof

Can't find any verbage in the WSM for troubleshooting sunroof issues.

Sunroof on GTS opens normally but won't move forward to close. Motor turns but just makes a popping sound as if a gear is jumping on an immovable part.

I can tug the sunroof forward by hand but no help from motor.

Do I pull the sunroof cover or the motor cover?

Pull the motor cover, hit the switch and see if the clutch (the rubber drive) is slipping. Also, with the sunroof open, look from above and see if the tracks are clear. They probably need some lubrication with non-setting grease.

I have white Lithium Grease, Silicone Lubricant or several types of bearing grease and of course WD-40. Which would be the best for the tracks?

Well, as is standard for me, I fixed the problem and created a few new ones.

When I pulled the cover one motor mounting nut was all the way off and the other holding on by only by a few threads. I remounted the motor and the system works fine.

This piece was laying inside the cover and I can't tell where it goes.
