Default Intake refresh finally done...

Thanks for the parts Rog, and thanks for the advice, Sean. Look fwd to dropping in Ken's newest chip. It'll be interesting to dyno again and see significant improvement. It drives like a different car.

hm, finally you say..how many hours do you estimate, and what were the major gotchas if any?

To clarify-- I've read the write ups and searched and gone through other threads on the process, just asking about O/P's experience.

Because I'm no mechanic, powder coating downtime notwithstanding, about 15 hours. I didn't do the cam covers or water bridge though. My biggest challenge was botling the organ pipes back on....considering #2 and #4 weren't in the right spot (yes they'll bolt on that way). My fuel lines had already been done as well.

I, too, was using a fantastic write-up found here.

Shoooot, I better get up eaarrrlly tomorrow...I have chips and injectors on the docket too. Foregoing the powdercoating for this season, though.

Thanks!

lol - I went awful slow though...,taking pictures, writing, and labeling virtually everything. If I wouldn't have done that - three weeks later it never would have gone back together. Took me forever to get things cleaned up too. Factually, I could/should have cleaned a lot more.

Bill,

Looks good, glad the refresh went well. When you say it drives like a different car, what improvements did you notice? Wish i could have stopped by to see your engine with everything off to help me when I get around to doing mine.

Now that I have the 89 debugged and reliable, its going to be time to start a major job on the 86.5 soon but I think it will be TB/WP first. My intakes have never been off so long overdue.

Cleaning up any and all vac issues I think helped tremendously. Plus the new fule injectors. The old injectors looked like hammered hell. When I dyno'd, it was evident there was a dramatic unmetered air leak. That's a thing of the past. I knew I was missing hp...I just can't believe how much. The damn thing screams...
