Hatch hinge hardware and sealing parts?

Hatch hinge hardware and sealing parts?
I pulled the hatch to address rust in the channel.
When I removed the hatch there was a thin dried fiberous material between the hatch hinge inner matting surface and the body frame. On the inside of the car was a thin rubberish seal material that looked like the mount bolts had been pushed through as the bolt hole was not cut clean. Not sure if either of these was the OEM solution.
I ordered the parts from Roger and item #22 is referred to as a "desk pad" but quantity shows "X" in the PET. The part I received was a thin metal plate so we assime it is a optional shim due to the X qty in PET.
Item #23 is a "gasket" in PET and what I received was a thin fiberous square with pre-drilled holes. One side is peel and stick. Had I not gotten this part in a bag with a PN I would have assumed it was item #22 above as it very similar to what I found during disassembly (god only knows whether the PO did it correctly).
So questions are:
1. What have others found when taking their hatches off?
2. Is the OEM gasket, #23, sufficient to prevent leaks?
3. I am assuming the stick on side attaches to the hardware plate and not the body - can anyone confirm?
4. Are there any alternate best practices to ensure no water leaks, i.e. alternate seal materials?
Thanks

Not sure this is of much help but when I had the exterior refresh done (rear hatch was removed), I noticed water drops on the rear drivers side visor after washing the car. I concluded that water was coming in via the rear hatch hinge via the bolts. I have not addressed this yet since the car is usually under cover and will probably use a clear silicon sealant or equivalent to address this in conjunction with the thin fibrous square provided with the kit (if I had it).

The first picture is the outside body hinge mount point. Note holes are square to allow for adjustment of hatch to car.
Second photo is the new "gaskets" by PN from both Roger and 928 Intl. Next to the new ones are the old ones removed from my car. The new ones have a peel and stick on one side which I attached to the hardware plate. If you mount them to car they would restrict the movement of the bolt within the square frame hole and thus adjustment of the hatch.
Third photo is the hardware plate without gasket attached and the "desk pad" that are the optional shims that mount between the hatch hinge and outside car mount pad to provide additional adjustment of hatch alignment.

I'm following this thread for info on your final adjustments. My hatch has a 3/8" gap along the top edge and overhangs slightly at the back. My inclination in looking at it is that the brackets need to move "up" to get it to close the gap, but in the three times I've tried I couldn't get it any closer to the 1/4" gap it shoud have.

I made my adjustments before installing the glass. I moved the hinges to the highest point (push hatch at hinges up as high as it would go) then snugged them up. Hatch is even with the roof line and sitts much better than before. I did not use the shims between hatch hinge and outer body.
I had also removed the hatch lock assembly and struts before adjusting.
