Dealerships- free inspection
In UK, at least: http://www.theautochannel.com/news/2...lth-check.html
"READING, UNITED KINGDOM – Sept 30, 2011: With over three quarters of all Porsches ever sold still on the road, the intrinsic quality of the sports cars from Stuttgart is clear. Following previous successful open days for Boxster, 911, Cayenne and Cabriolet models, Porsche is inviting owners of its Coupe models to a complimentary Service Clinic1 at their local Porsche Centre on Saturday October 8.
The national Porsche Coupe Service Clinic provides owners with a complimentary inspection and the opportunity to accompany the technician and view their car in a state of the art workshop at a Porsche Centre. Owners can experience first hand the passion and expertise of the technicians devoted to ensuring the cars continue to deliver maximum performance and driving pleasure.
Eligible models range from not only the iconic 911 and Cayman, but also 924, 944 and 928 coupes from the 1970s and 1980s, as well as the 968 from the early 1990s. The classic 356, in production from 1951 until 1965, is also welcome.
Every participating Porsche Centre is holding a prize draw, giving owners attending the Service Clinics the chance to win a Porsche Classic wine cooler, featuring an original ribbed cylinder from the early air-cooled 911 models, worth £430.
Based on the success of previous Service Clinics, Porsche expects to inspect around 300 Porsche coupe models around the UK on Saturday October 8."

Heh yea, every time I read Total 911 and they mention free Porsche dealership inspection day, I wish we could have something like that. Wouldn't mind free yearly evaluation with no strings attached

Who would we contact at PCNA to get this rolling?

Well, with the current state of affairs where the dealers know nothing about the 928, why would you want them to do an inspection of a car that they are not familiar with? What actual useful information would you get?

Some things are 928 specific, others are more or less the same across the cars. Noone is saying you need to fix at a dealership, just get your free inspection...

The odds of finding someone at a dealership service facility that knows anything about a 928 is going to be extremely rare.

Once they finish the inspection, I would sit down with the factory reps and tell them everything they missed, or got wrong.
It would turn into a very long and agrivating day for the factory reps.

I've attended a couple of these complementary inspections. No the technicians rarely have specialist knowledge of 928s, but with cars up on the lift they can give useful assessment of general items like condition of brake and fuel lines, parking brake cables, exhaust, wheel bearings, track rods, any leaks/splits in rack boots or CVjoints, engine or transmission oil leaks and so on. It's usually things I'm aware of anyway, but I do pobe opportunity to walk under my car and inspect in comfort myself!
Tends to be restricted to underside and running gear inspection, not the whole car, and certainly doesn't involve any diagnostic check for fault codes.
It's a fine intiative. Of course they hope to drum up some service and parts business, but shows at least degree of interest in older models.

About 5 years ago one of the local shops was running a deal just like this. They even went so far as to total up an estimate telling you what it would cost to fix everything they found. For me, I knew what I needed to have done, but it was extra nice to have someone else take a look at it and verify it. Who knows, they might catch something important that you didn't know about.

It's mainly FISHING for business. Most state required inspections work out the same way. They find something "wrong" with your car and offer to fix it. Sure sometimes they find some stuff you didn't catch but by far it's to drum up business for the inspecting shop, because many people will just sign up for the fix.

Frankly a lot of 928 Owners really do not want to KNOW what their car "needs" and only manage to fix enough to keep it running most of the time.......and many of those do not spend much time on this forum.
And of course it is done in the hope that it will generate more service business for the dealerships maybe even sell some cars because they are in business to make money, nothing wrong with that....

What needs to happen is WE as a collective group have our own 928 garage party. There are so many people such as myself who would need and would like to gain more knowledge of how to DIY, TB, WP, etc maintenance tips.
If someone could put together a DYI video series would make a TON of money...
