Default Strosek 8x17" ET50

Anyone have the Strosek 8x17" ET50 wheel in front on their S4? (Yes it is the 17" not the 18")

If you do - how are you getting on with wrong offset. Search seems to indicate that most are OK with ET50 on 18" wheels.

Other stuff: Car does need to be at standard height and 225 is max tire width to prevent rubbing?

Thanks

Oliver,

We keep seeing this old chestnut recurring.

1. Will it fit? - most probably- might be a bit close or even kiss the inside edge of the wings if they are not rolled but it will fill the wheel well nicely and look good cosmetically.
2. Do you want to?- well it wipes out the negative scrub radius Porsche carefully built into the steering geometry of their wonderfully designed system.
3. Does it matter? Folks will have diferent opinions on this. If you have a garage queen and tootle around those lovely Oxfordshire country roads at a nice leisurely pace then probably not. I suspect the answer will only become apparent if and when you track the car- the stop watch never lies. If you are a hard charger then I suspect you will find a notable difference and it will not be one you want.

If you want 17 inch wheels try to find a set of GTS wheels- they have the correct offset and you can get a bit more out of them by fitting a 235 sectionon the front and a 265 on the rear.

There is a reason why it is hard to find front wheels with the correct offset of 65mm- they are expensive to make and the 928 is the only Porsche that has this characteristic [I believe]. I think some of the Panamera wheels maybe ET60 there or thereabouts. I think you can also find reverse spoke 10x18 inch wheels with ET60 that were intended as rear wheel fitments on 911's.

Regards

Fred

Thanks Fred,

I got you, Dr Bob, and Smiffy in the stay above 55 corner and quite a few in the ET50 - it's OK corner. I've done the archive reading - was just hoping someone had these actual wheels on their car.

I had intended to get GTS wheels sometime in the future (enough to do on the car at the moment) but then I saw this set of Strosek's and well they are that good looking - straight away I start wondering whether/couldn't it/might it etc. In the end do appreciate the reason for/behind the ET65 wheels.

As to the "lovely Oxfordshire country roads" a lot main B roads have 50mph limits now but midweek in Summer there are a few nice drives to be had off the beaten track.

Thanks.

I have Strosek 17'' phone dials on my car. No offsets upfront. I do have offsets on the back - not sure why the shop which mounted the wheels put them on; the guy who had these wheels before said he used them without offsets... I'm refinishing the wheels now and when will be putting them back on, I'll see if I can leave offsets off the back as well.

Cheers!

Oliver,

As long as you understand the pro's and cons there should be no disappointment. Another consideration is that whereas not as bad a 16 inch tire availability, 17 inch tyre availability is not faring a whole lot better and 18 inch is really the de-facto baseline std more or less. 18 inch work well on a 928.

Before my current "big wheels" I had a set of new reverse spoke off takes from either a 911 or Boxster. For day to day driving they were fine but on our autocross event I was slower [not a whol lot] than on stock 16 inch wheels. I sold them, got some real wheels and promtly did 5 seconds better on a 1 minute lap and never looked back. They can pull 1.2g in a bend and I chicken out before the tyres let go! But then with 265 section up front and 295 on the rear one expects something. Does nothing for the top end though but since anything over 100 mph gets a prison stay I am not overly concerned.

Regards

Fred
