Default Pump - this one NEW or REFURB?

Can anyone conclusively (no guesses please) tell me if this is a factory new, or rebuilt pump?

I'm going to say refurb, from your pic it looks like the pulley shaft face not machined. I just put on a new pump and that face was machined smooth just like the gasket contact surface.

the easiest way to tell is to use some carb cleaner on a rag and rub on the housing somewhere you can't see it on the car.. if paint rubs off, then its a reman..... new ones are not painted....

Sterling, there's no paint on this one. But then I have another one which I *know* is rebuilt, there's no paint on that one either.

The signature and paintless pulley kind of lead me to believe it may be a Porsche rebuild.

Heinrich, here's the impeller side of a new factory pump, FWIW:

Heinrich: Yours is beautiful, too! Don't feel inferior...

Remember what you said about the importance of the photographer?

First off Porsche never to my knowledge rebuilt water pumps BUT they PCNA did BUY rebuilt from the same rebuilder which many of the 928 parts suppliers also used......those are the ones which have become increasingly less reliable due to having been "rebuilt" too many times......
The APC is the mark of the rebuilder also the "machine " marks on the gasket surface are what happens when you use a belt sander to resurface the casting.....note the contrast to Robs small curved tooling marks....But that is about all I know about it.

What Jim said. "APC" is the rebuilder.

That looks like a cast impeller, so it is not a new factory unit.

Not to get into debate, but I have bought Porsche rebuilt pumps. And then also plain ole rebuilds from 5 of the "Big 6" namely Intl; Spec; Dvk; MotorSpUT; Rus, plus once from Pelican and 2x from another Internet wherehouse.

ALL the rebuilds that were not Porsche rebuilds, had repainted rollers, except the one from Rus and the Porsche ones. It always amused me when I'd look at my tbelt after a few miles and see gold paint on it.

The one in the pic has no paint.
