Which of these 4 colors should I paint 82' 928?
Hello I have a 1982 928 that badly needs paint. The car is platinum metallic with brown leather interior. It has a flat black wing on the back (I don't think that is original?).
Which of these 4 colors do you like best? Is it a big deal to keep it original? This will never be a 100% restored car (runs and drives perfect but needs interior work-seats good) so I don't know how importantt original color is?
Guards red (top left)
Platinum metallic (top right
Pewter metallic (middle)
Velvet red (bottom)

Good idea - can't find how to turn the post into a poll via edit function. Guessing I would have to start a new thread to make a poll? That would be fine if I could delete this thread. Don't want 2 going at once...
update: I asked mods to delete this thread and I will re-do as a poll

Well this hasn't been deleted yet so I guess I'll just keep it going.
This velvet red 928 shown below appears to have been repainted. The 928 uk site says it's velvet red but it looks more of a darker burgundy or maybe candy-applish than the other velvet reds I've seen. I also posted a 911 velvet red as a comparison. These two "velvet reds" look different to me Maybe it is just the deep clearcoat on the 928 that makes it look different?
The last pic shows one at the track where driver appears to be on the phone! Maybe that is a different red?

Platinum Metalic is a nice understated color. I have one that I just repainted. If I had the choice I would choose velvet red. But to do it correctly you will need to take the car apart to a greater extent than you are likely willing to do. The engine needs to come out. The brake booster needs to come out. The doors and hatch needs to come off as does all of the glass and hood. It might even be necessary to remove the seats and pull back the carpet near the door sills but I'm not sure about that. In a nutshell, if you don't do all of this it will always look like a respray. If you don't care about that, have at it. Velvet red is a great color.

Ilike928,
Unless you plan on concoursing the car it makes no difference on changing the color. You hold the only opinion that matters.
IMO I would go with...
Sorry can't do that. I love them all.
Funny enough my '83 Moss Green 944 had a repaint to champaigne and my only focus was on getting it back to original. Guess I am partial to green's.
