I don't know where he got the gears for mine but it didn't cost me that much as you can see.

Well as far as the clutch set goes, I'll sell it for $1450. I'm sure it will fit in some flat rate boxes so shipping shouldn't be an issue. It includes the 2 discs, the intermediate plate, the Pressure plate (pictured) and the lever, and release bearing.

Still working the transmission price but I'll start off with $1975 and see who balks, shipping still unknown. I finalized a list of parts from Roger but there were others from a source I still can't get out of him. He said it was from Porsche directly.

Ohh boy..... you mean the shop didn't give you a detailed parts list till now?
If I was buying this transmission, I would pull all the covers to see if, in fact, what they calim was actually replaced. They could at least sandblast the case to make it look new and not just spray paint it silver. If I'd fork out $5K for a tranmission rebuild, I woud expect it to at least look new.

I believe the point of the $8k for gears comment is that its fairly unlikely all the gears were replaced for a $2500 parts charge , so its more like back to we don't know what exactly was replaced.

Thanks for your conspiracy theories. I know I went into this naive but not that bad. I have all the parts listings. I didn't ask for them upfront because I knew where he was getting them from and he is very reputable. It looks new to me. I'll confirm the spray paint tomorrow. The marks are grease from me removing it.

Bryan: I note its Rankin "Automatic" Transmissions. Any idea why? Its a minor detail, but does he just usually specialize in automatics?

He mentioned earlier that they may have played a few games with parts/labor for tax purposes. Still that's a pretty significant jump.

Thanks alot. I was just about to make an offer. Now he's going to tell me to FO.
I'd thought about offering him $1500 myself. It would be hard for me to justify a higher price on an unknown rebuild when I can grab one from 928 Intl for $2500 (admittedly a core exchange, but that's not a problem for me).

The shop's name is not very helpful. He does it all though and he knows his stuff. 75 years old. Give him a call, he'll definetly remember this one. (Paul)
This thing about the gears is crazy. All five were purchased from Roger himself. They are no where near 8k.
I don't understand this "unknown rebuild" terminology. I thought I had presented enough info. If anyone is serious please PM me and I'll provide all requested info.

Its not meant as an insult to the work Bryan. I simply mean that I personally know nothing of the place, and no one else has spoken up regarding experiences with their work.
It would be like me mentioning a shop near my home - you would know nothing of them or their work.

Thanks for the reply.

I supplied all the new parts to Paul at Rankin and he was a very knowledgeable person regarding the internals of the gearbox.

I'll go down to 2350 plus shipping for the whole set. Clutch, discs, lever, release bearing and the transmission.
