Perhaps, but Porsche has done better. I had a 1985 944 for 12 years (finally sold it this May), and I bought that car in only fair condition. After 12 years of repairs and restoration, I knew a whole lot about that car (even though mechanics did all the actual work), but one thing I never found out was the location of the relay panel. Fastforward to my 1988 S4, which was purchased in excellent condition. I started digging out relays within about 2 months of purchase, and I'm still hunting for trouble.

Lifted from Pelican...."Relays are a very common source of failure in the 944. There are several different relays used on the 944. All are subject to failure after many years of service. Before suspecting your wiring or your components, be sure to check your relays. It is wise to have at least some spares on hand so that you can check proper operation of the ones that are installed in your car. ..."
Some of the relays are 928 numbers some 993 , several are V W , some are unique to the 944 so have 944 part numbers. One sampling is not statistically valid.......

OK, point taken. I'm supposed to know stats for my job, so, yeah. It makes sense that they would be suffering internal corrosion.
