would it hurt to polish them with a rag and polish a little?

I would get some 1000 grit paper and some oil and lightly surface the blasted areas only.
make sure to clean the parts with a few hot water washes use simple green and a tooth brush,
flush the oil pathways as well with some brake cleaner but dont let it get onto the powder coat or it will damage it
