Wasn't it his brother? I'm sure he knows all about this car. That being said, there is no reason that the M5 shouldn't have been in "M" mode. Not like it helped any. It is down significantly in both the torque and horsepower department.

Do you know what mode the M5 was in and did you have more than one run with it?
I played with an M5 with my turbo and the first two times I pulled like there was no tomorrow the last run he gave me more run than I imagined in return.
The M5 has 2 power modes and if you are not in the power mode you have around 350bhp available. Huge difference when in power mode and not something you can switch on the fly.
Not saying you aren't fast but if you caught him off guard you might have felt as though you had more on him than you did. I am sure he figured he didn't need to power up for an older 928 but I could be wrong.

If your 965 is 430hp at the crank it has zero chance against an E60 M5. You will open a small gap up to about 100mph and from then on you will be seeing the E60/E61 quad exhausts...

Don't be too quick about saying zero chance. A stock '94 911T weighs under 3,300lbs. A 2010 M5 is just over 4,000lbs. 18% more weight is pretty significant. If the 911 has 430hp, the M5 has 17% more power. The 911T has a better HP/weight ratio. That posted video was done in 2006 when the Gallardo had less power than it has today, albeit still around 500hp. 520hp Gallardos put down only 410-415rwhp stock, they lose a lot of power because of the AWD system. Oh, and the M5 is an SMG 7-speed, one extra gear and less time between shifts.

At speed weight does not matter... What matters is brute horsepower, which the M5 has in abundance, drag, which the M5 has less than a 965 and as you said, gearchange speed, where the M5 wins handsdown...
My race 928, which is around 1350kg and 420chp keeps up to about 100mph with my M5 without a problem and from then on it is goodbuye... Sniff... Horsepower wins everytime...
Still love the 965, but it would need to be 430whp to stand a chance...

Believe me, I own an M5 and I know how it goes all the way to 204mph...

Curb weight Ultima= 2,183 lb with 600+ HP engine = better power to weight than bugatti...
928 curb weight stock- 3500 to 3600 lb.
Going to chop a quarter of the car off?
I love my 928. But really?
Stock Viper curb 3284, 400 HP still bests stock GTS. Add twin turbos.. then you get the 600 to 700 HP, starting at 300lbs less.
BASE 2010 viper curb wt. 3,460 with 600 HP. Again.. add twin turbos and what.. above 1000HP?

Agreed. It's just like all these ricers that come up to me "Oh my Supra/Turbo Civic/H22a Civic/ ricer could beat the **** out of that Porsche junk." Yeah well you know what? I really don't care, you don't buy a 928 for speed, you really don't. It's just neat to have one that's as fast as most modern sports cars yet still has all the refinements and driveability of an XJS. I'm not knocking this car here, i think it's great when people don't just pop in an SBC 350, supercharge it and say "hey guys look it's technically still a Porsche!", now it's faster and "cheap" to repair! I wish the 928 engine was still in evolution today.

This is not about the M5 vs 928 as they are different cars and I am a very happy owner of both. Personally, I think if you are to compare a 928 to an ///M Powered BMW, then you should be really looking at the M6, which is the true spiritual successor to the 928. No other car in my humble opinion blends GT abilities with outright silly speed usually associated with a sports car. You can say Aston Martin do, but my God, their V8 models are painfully slow and their V12s adequate. The Jaguar XKR is a nice car, but as a complete package, the M, despite being 7 year old design is still hard to beat...

I wasn't trying to pee in anybodies wheaties, just relaying fun between brothers always competing ....that was the real reason for the greg brown work under the hood.
