Default Cheap thrill against water cooled 911 turbo today

So I was out for my regular joy ride today. Came up on a @2000 911 Turbo. I was behind and we were on a highway with a lot of red lights. He hit it at the green and so did I. Of course he pulled me, but not by a lot. I totally keep up each time. We only sprinted from zero to @speed limit. Did it a few times at each light. I was pleasantly surprised he didn't smoke me as bad as I thought a modern 911 Turbo would. Wonder what he was thinking about my 33 year old 928 keeping up so well. He did slow down at one point to get a good look at my car. My old girl did me proud.

He was playing with you....."2000 Porsche 911 Turbo 0-60 mph 3.9 Quarter mile 12.2. " He only went hard enough to "win".

He probably never pressed his car beyond 3000 rpm. Kind of like when ricers try to race me...

996 TT's have some serious thrust. I drove one a few years ago and thought "where would all this power really be useful driving on the street?"

He seemed "on it". High RPM shifting. I didn't say I beat him. He had me by a few lengths and pulling. Just thought that it would be a more dramatic departure. Maybe it was a wide body with a Turbo badge???Besides it was just some good fun. I'm hardly a guy who looks to race anyone.

If it was a non-turbo with wide body, it would be a Carrera 4S. They are easy to spot - they have the standard (small) retractive rear spoiler, a reflective strip between the tail lights, and no air inlets between door and rear wheels.

I was cruising along at 80mph, and a Cadillac CTS-V Coupe came up on me. We both hit it at approx the same time, and we stayed dead even through to approx 145mph before he shut down, then I did. It was a couple of young guys, so I presume the driver was giving it all that it had. I was surprised he did not go by me. The weight on that CTS-V is listed at 3850 and he had a passenger, I did not. I have taken approx 200lbs out of the GTS, so lets say he was approx 700-800 lbs more than me? T

I so want enough power to beat some of the smug bastards I run into on the streets.

I want to be that smug bastard that can show them tailights.

Tony, I've seen your wife, she is nowhere near 200 lbs.

Got to drive a Nissan GTR last Thursday...Holey ****! Cruising along at 60, floor it and you are doing over 100 in 2 seconds AND the traction control is coming on to stop wheel spin.

That was not a race but a tease.

This one looked like a real Turbo. I only saw his tail. It had the fixed large wing and the big brake ducts. Isn't a C4S or Aero a Turbo body without the tail? Add a Turbo tail and badge and hard to know for sure.

I don't think of yesterday as a race -since we both knew who would win. I just had a little fun and my old girl delivers fun in spades every time I drive her. I didn't buy a 79 to race for titles guys. If I wanted to do that I would be driving something like a GTR or a Z06.

My point was the 911 didn't leave me like I was standing still or as I was expecting and it made me proud of my old girl.

You are dillusional if yu beleive it was close. The 911 was just playn's with ya.
I went against a slighly moded 996TT, 2 years ago and at full tilt, I was barely keeping up. He was slowly pulling away (walking speed), I gave all she had, and this was with a SC, on a 32V, 5speed.

Guys, I NEVER said I was winning or even close to winning. I just said my 928 wasn't left like I was parked. I've owned not one but two 32 valve 928's too.

So you're saying you fully expected to humiliate that turbo with your '79?

Tony,

Old or new "V"? The new car should have left you like you deployed a parachute.
