Default Value of my 84 928s Auto, Black/black

Ok guys, time for my annual, "think I might sell my 1984 928S, black/ black".

Good: rebuilt 4 speed auto transmission, smooth engine, excellent body, new spoiler, newer 4 tires, new battery, alternator, runs excellent.

Bad: No carpet, no radio, small items need attention: AC, dash crack

I'm thinking 4,800 dollars is a fair price for a straightbody, clean running black on black 84, please humor me and chime it with your estimate on the car's value..

i think thats an excellent price I would say its slightly undervalued if the interior is decent. Do you have interior pics? Im Porscheless right now.

Default quick answer..

Thanks for the input. My insurance replacement value is $13,000 US dollars. Perhaps my aim is low. I don't have to sell her, but for the right price I would pass her on to another enthusiast. It's been a three year joy/driver...

In terms of the interior, seats are very good, I removed the carpet to get rid of a musty smell, which worked very well...Here are the photos before I removed the carpet...

Might bring $4500 or so if its original paint. Good luck with sale. Not sure how insurance companies can insure these for more than twice value.

His car looks really nice in person.

The trick with insurance isn't getting them to write the policy, its getting money out of them if something happens.

Looks sharp. I bought my 84 a/t in 2001 for 4200$. Was a fun car.

Didn't look as 'sharp' as your black one. T/belt was just done, had a poor respray, dash cap installed and sun damage on rear inner panels. Ran great for the four years I owned it. Bought it with the odo stuck at 104k and sold it with same mileage! :P

Small is a relative term...." small items need attention: AC, dash crack" . To effectively market a car it needs to LOOK ready to go and no carpet is going to put off a lot of people. Your most likely buyer will be some one who wants a Porsche so they look good driving it and knows little about them..... and can not afford a 911.

Re: Insurance, the term "Actual Cash Value" quickly comes to play and the results are usually not good.

Al you keep tossing around this idea of selling and somebody may make you an offer and then what are you going to do? That isn't a car you will ever easily replace.

Default offer...

Yes, good point Mike. The color combo and year/engine is a perfect combination for high speed freeway drives... It probably would be a mistake to sell... Stay tuned...
