What could cause this????
Saw this picture and made my hair on the back of my neck stand! Same color, same year as my incoming car, I thought at first it was my car! For few minutes I had that sinking feeling... thankfully its not my car by a twin sister to mine, poor car... So what do you think caused this disaster?

Probably ancient fuel lines.
Number one killer of 928 and 951.
And many other 80s cars using fuel injection and rubber hoses
Possibly power steering fluid leak, though that might have been secondary.

Its Exclusive model as it has GTS rear fenders but still uses D90 etc. Front fender extensions are fiberglass. Power steering is likely source. Other ignition point could be ABS power feed cable. It comes directly from battery.

Fuel is usually towards the rear of the engine bay.

My guess is that it was too close to something else on fire. Nothing I can think of that far forward that would feed a fire. I also wonder what is fire damage and what is putting out the fire damage.

The car in Japan was most likely caused by an electrical fire due to the ABS power cable shorting out. Overheating fuel hose then caused fuel to leak and catch fire.
The ABS power cable (unfused) is routed in the front left of the engine. If not properly routed/protected following a T/B overhaul, it can become fraid and short to ground.
