Engine Identification
The 1991 928 GT I was going to fix has a blank spot with no numbers where the Engine code is supposed to be under the coolant neck. Is there a reason for this??

Yes either the block was replaced usually under warranty or the car has a stolen engine with numbers ground off....or it has an S-4 engine and some one wished to hide that fact.... Those are the choices.

From 87 onwards, the engine number plinth was machined at the same time as the water bridge surface - so it should be exactly level with there.
Prior to that, it was left as a rough casting (928 bocks are sand-cast) so any tampering is very evident.
One of my 928's has a plinth with no engine number - just the letter "ATR", which is a factory stamp on some warranty blocks.
