Default Exhaust sealing ring orientation

I am installing my headers now in my engine assembly. Do the sealing rings go flat side to the cylinder head or the round side to the cylinder head. WSM no help nor the picture in PET.

Flat side looks like the side that crushes. I am figuring against the cylinder head.

Thanks,

Jeff

Don't they fit in a recess? Which way keeps them in place until you mount the manifold from the side?

Flat/flanged side of sealing rings against the manifolds (easier to pry out later…)

You can hold them in with a small dollop of copper antiseize, or you could just rotate the engine stand while mounting, so they don't fall out...

Okay. Made them face the manifold. I already have them held in there with copper anti seize (great minds think alike). Can't rotate my stand as I have side mounts to make it more stable.
