Hilton, FWIW, I think I have seen Bruce Buchanan in Sydney post some notes on landsharkoz about parallels he has fitted....unless my memory fails me again. I know he has posted about replacing auto tranny coolers with externals to avoid problems with the internal cooler in the rad...

I'm just in the throes of planning a full AC refresh on my 89 and exploring alternatives - a neighbour has recently bought an i30 so I figure I'll drop by and measure it to make sure before I pick one up to play with

Hilton, I refurbed my ac compressor last year, new hoses, converted to R134, no other changes, seems to work fine, keeps inside cool in 40C ambient, so not sure what the issue with early condensors is. Pretty sure its a serpentine. If my condensor craps out, would obviously pay to look at putting in a parallel, but there isnt any point right now.

I have one of my 928's in pieces at present, and the condenser looks like its seen better days. I don't know whether it leaks - but suspect it may, so am exploring parallel options. If I can find one I'm happy going with then I'll do it, as everything else in the system will be new and I'll have the chance to ensure there's no mineral oil anywhere near it.

I agree that the later 928's have a large/efficient enough condenser to sufficiently cool their relatively small interior volume with either R12 or R134a. However, if one needs to replace their condenser and there is a drop in parallel-flow solution for under $200, that is something I would definitely go for instead of spending more on a new more expensive one of an older less efficient design, or risk a leak or blockage with a used one.

This is where I purchased mine: http://www.familycar.com/
$178.57 plus shipping, I had to enlarge the mounting holes for the receiver dryer other then that dropped right in.

For a '91 GT, it lists the Behr and the ACI is $207.14:

I went to the site and the universal is not listed but there are several other sites that offer it for a few more dollars.
Core 22 inches
Height 14 inches
Thickness 3/4 inch
It seems they have stopped offering this model I called them and let it be known that the holes were not the correct size for the receiver dryer so that maybe the reason they dropped it. There is a lot of other companies that offer a like condenser for $200-$220, this was the cheapest option I found.

Did anyone ever follow up these parallel flow condensers for 87-91 manual 928's? (i.e. taller condenser as there's no auto trans cooler sitting above it)

I need a new condenser for one of my 928's (it did leak), and this occurred to me after seeing what I'm guessing is the same condensers on ebay for $160:

Kooler Car up here in Brisbane has the drawings and details for the kit in mine.
It's a Toyota Hilux core with pretty funky laser cut mounts for a spal pusher fan.
Let me know if you want the details or a better piccy

An independent workshop here in Sydney, which does mostly 928 work, has been fitting parallel flow condensors for some time (a few years now, I think). All reports on the performance of the aircons with them fitted have been good.
