Question T-stat Housing / Waterbridge Installation Questions

I apologize upfront if this doesn't work as due to Irene I'm doing this from my BB.
I installed my T-stat housing but don't like the way the silicone Orings are being forced out the sides. It doesn't look like it's seated all the way? Does this look correct? I torqued it down to 10/20 but in reading Dwayne's write-up he torques his down to 7/14? (NM). Does anyone know which is correct for my MY?
Lastly, the PO had the exhaust valves replaced due to a TB failure, I was reading in the manual that the waterbridge needs to be modified if the heads have been shaved-maybe this is why the housing doesn't seem to fit tight, or is it something else I'm doing wrong?
Hopefully the pics will show up as I can't embed them using my BB.

That is definitely not right. Looks like the seals slipped out of their grooves before tightening. Use a little silicone grease on the big black o-ring to ease installation and on the red rings to ensure they stay in place when installing. Dow 111 works good. You can also get silicone grease, also called o-ring grease, in the plumbing section of your local hardware or home improvement store.

you need to remove and start over......the water bridge to cyl head gaskets sit in grooves of the WB and shouldnt be forced out.

Lube the main WB to block Oring and wiggle the assembly into place then torque the bolts.

WAIT......this is a 85?......different gaskets and WB

Mike,
I did all that but will take it off and try again.
Malcolm,
Yes it's an '85 16V so the Orings are thick rectangular wedges. I just looked at the old Orings and they look like they have a shorter profile then the one's I installed??? I'll check it out when I get it off later today. Thank you.

Turns out they were the wrong o-rings. The originals were 1.5mm thinner.

Even with correct seals and gaskets care is required. This is how I found mine when removing water bridge. Most likely culprit for coolant leakage into front valley.
