Default Front ride height adjustment

On MY'85 and up when the adjustment ring is maxed out for either lowering or raising the height is there a stop to prevent the ring from unthreading or is there a stop? I do not remember.

In other words if I want to lower the car and I adjust it all of the way down will it just come apart? I can get a measurement if I place something inside of the threaded ring, does anyone know what that would be?

When I upgraded to S4 suspension I gained exactly one inch in ride height and now need to make more of an adjustment to lower the car to get it back to normal height.

Yes, it will.

These are often frozen together or the inner part turns along with the outer. Taking it apart and setting it to the lwoest and then going up may work best.

Depends on the shocks. IIRC Koni's and Bilsteins have threaded shock bodies and have a stop at the bottom while Boge/Sachs with the threaded sleeves that slip over the shock bodies don't have a bottom stop. Hence the adjuster nut can be lowered completely off the threads of the sleeve. None have any sort of upper stop.

Correct, but only Bilsteins have that. Koni's use the stock system.

Was your ride height increase a result of the suspension not being settled after you installed the S4 parts?
