Default 1986 RHD Euro Good & Bad

I thought I would start a new thread for my new RHD Euro. I will use this thread to document my experience with this unique 928. While most of you know what I paid for the car and have seen a few pictures of the car I am sure you realize it is far from the perfect 928 it needs work and I hope I can do this car justice. I am open to comments, opinions, and any guidance that I can get. James I wont's start looking for wheels just yet. I will start by posting the pictures that I took the day I picked her up and the day I got her home.

I not really sure what this is?

What is this?

The solenoid on the engine cross bar is to bump the idle speed when the A/C compressor is engaged. You were doing pretty well until I saw the RUST....I hate rust ! Too many years in Northern Indiana leaves me with a real dislike for rust..really one of the reasons I moved to California. And that is NOT surface rust, also you need to pull the rear spoiler off the hatch and see how the window channel is doing...

Hi

If it helps , I have precisely the same S2 ..even the same year "C" reg = 86.. mine is still in the Uk and I have added a few bits (like Nitrous lol)

I even have corrosion in the same place around the filler flap lol

But if you have any questions, just ask away....

Its the 310 hp engine with the S4 4 pot Brembos and all round S4 suspension/Brakes, just in case you didnt know...

Hope this helps.

All the best Brett

Not a fan of rust either! The underside of the car is rust free, I am thinking living on an island all of it's life surrounded by saltwater was not to good for it. But it can be repaired, the gas filler is by far the worst place on the body.

The ***** inside are the hatch release and the headlight adjuster. In the window channel, you'll need to remove the spoiler and the window since it most likely has some rust in the channel itself. Grind off the rust and treat the area with some rust killer. You'll likely need a small amount of filler, but you'll have to apply an epoxy primer to the treated area because body filler doesn't get along with the acids in the rust killer.

My window channels had a lot of rust. I sandblasted them. I don't recommend doing this unless you plan to remove EVERYTHING from the interior, or else you'll be vacuuming sand years later. After blasting, I did everything mentioned above and haven't discovered any signs of rust. I did those repairs 5 years ago.

I have a friend that has a body shop and have considered having it soda blasted but I would think that I would be sucking the soda up forever!

It looks like it has the English (right hand drive) Euro lights from the pics..(not that clear but the cut out looks like it's on the passenger side of the light). The german euro lights are on the drivers side of the light like in the pic of my car below..

Tom when I am standing in front of the 928 looking down on the headlights the cut out goes to the left. I have not driven it at night and do not have US lenses to compare to but it seemed to me that the direction the cut out went was the side that was the brightest. But they are opposite of the one in your picture.

not sure on the logic of why the cut out is on the drivers side....but both my sets of german euro lights (one set on the 89GT and one set on the Scirocco in my avatar) are on the drivers side.

When setting up the GT...the light on the drivers side has a very sharp cutoff (line literally on the road up front) and shines bright from there down...as not to blind the oncoming traffic. The passenger side light has the same cuttoff but it also shines the light to the right and off the side of the road...It made a huge difference compared to the H5s.

I think the cuttoff make the light shine away from the corner it's on....so that yours would be concentrated towards the left side of the roadway..rather than the right...

Personally I would keep them and just apply black tape to the cuttout portion...kinda like they do to the German Euro lights on cars in the UK... Anyone have a pic of this?

I will take a pic of my lights when I get home and post. I would like to see a pict of the tape too, I would not want to change the lenses.

It does not show all that well in Tom's pic, but the H4 lamp lenses have wedge areas on either side of center. Since Tom's are E-code, the top edge of the left side (US driver side) wedge is LEVEL, while the right side wedge top edge FLARES UP to the right. If you shine the lights on a wall at night there will be a visible flare up to the right of center, which should be AWAY from oncoming traffic. Judging by the steering wheel location you may have the H4 lamp lense flare up as well as the steering wheel on the wrong side for Arkansas. Was this car federalized?

Ooops! Is Arkansas one of the no-title, what-do-we-care states?

I was wondering what plate was on it for the maiden voyage where the brakes locked up....
