Default How to do the PS pump

Now that I have a nice reconditioned PS rack I want to clean the internals of the PS pump before alowing the two to exchange fluids. I thought it was straightforward but appears to be tricky. Is there a writeup?

Oh dear, forget to say I already have the seals for the rebuild, 928 347 921 00 and |I don't expect the pump to have a significant amount of wear because it is a low mileage car (approx 90k) and the rack wasn't leaking all that much. The rubber bellows were intact.

Perhaps find a way to flush by letting the pump run on some clean oil so I can check if it stays clean?

You need to remove the pulley, then the screws on the housing. Then you can lift out the axle with pump internals. Keep the pump up right so the internal vanes don't fall out.

I think I've done them 3 ways now, following the directions that came with the seal kit so far has worked the best, but the other ways did have some educational value.

Again, if it isnt broken, dont fix it.....

If it needs the reseal, then do it.

Put it in mineral spirits and spin the pump by hand to get any old stuff out of it.
There is more junk in new lines than there is the pump though....

I didn' get an instruction sheet. Just a tiny package with the seals. Do you have the instructionsheet?

Options of not fixing it are still open but I want to be absolutely sure I don't ruin the fresh rack with an old and dirty pump.

Just clean it externally, and as I said spin it a little with it in some mineral spirits.
There will be no real junk inside of it.
