Default Size

Hi SeanR
I live in Taiwan, I run my 89 S4 with 75C thermostat from 928 int. When I drive my car 30 mins the temp needle will stop at mid of temp gauge or a little bit higher.(out site temp is 36C)

Recently I have search 71C thermostat, I had find Benz W124 thermostat had 71C.
It has smaller surface at the rear, have any one try 71C?
What is "smaller surface" at the rear play it's part when cooling?

The water bridge has a rear seal which the thermostat fits against. the diameter of the 75C is much smaller than the 83C

for comparison see attached, the middle part is OEM 83c, the right is the new 75c, the left is another 83C out of a '90 GT:

Hi the flyin'
Is the 75C can fit the seal? can you give me the size of the seal?
My 71C is same like the 75C.

I put the Wahler back in rather than fit a new tstat, it looked like it could damage the seal - which is a weak point anyway.

If you use the correct part 928 106 129 16 Wahler or Behr the flat seal plate diameter is 42mm. The correct rear seal is 928 106 163 00 and the sealing face center diameter is 40mm and fits the seal plate perfectly.

Paul what you have there looks totally wrong.

I agree, I just got it from my local motor factors. Never fitted it, probably took it back for a refund (it was a few years ago, can't quite remember).
