Skipp - congrats on that car - it looks to be a stunning example - a real time machine. I followed the previous posts on it, and I beleive one of the pictures showed a Massachussetts inspection sticker on the windsheild. I would be interested in knowing where the car has been since it left MA until it arrived in your hands. I know it was for sale in the Philadelphia area for a while, and then I thought it made it to the West coast. (??) Anyway, it seems to have covered a bit of ground over the past year without really turning a wheel, or ever being "sold". I hope it was well cared for during that time. Can't wait for the full report!

Wow, great to hear you bought that great car. I saw pictures of it over a year ago, just before i bought my black 86.5.

I still use pictures of your car as inspiration on how my car has to look.

I would highly recommend replacing the timing belt though, would be really bad if it broke or skipped in such a beautiful car.

Cheers

Update on the car:

The car has been thoroughly checked out and is being serviced. No major problems. Estimate of 5k to sort car was accurate by the board.

I called "Alex", the original marketer of the car at $40,000 that posted all the pictures. Alex owns "T. Car Care". He has been very helpful at filling in the blanks on the history for me.

Vehicle History:

It turns out the original owner from the Boston suburbs (Weston, MA) (since 1985 per Auto Check & Car Fax) ) died and the family donated the car to charity. A dealer or third party then bought the car and sold it to "Alex" in Pennsylvania. The title I received still had Alex's company name on it "T. Car Care" when I received it. Alex was able to get in touch with the salesman who originally sold the car to the deceased gentleman in MA. (1985), who confirmed the authenticity of the car. Alex then marketed the car which we saw on this board. Apparently someone questioned the authenticity of the car which gave Alex's buyer cold feet. The car was inspected (PPI) at Holberts Motors in Warrington, PA in May of 2010. This matches up with the Carfax report. Holbert's told the buyer with cold feet that the car was original and authentic but needed the obvious service work done (a letter was issued from Holbert's to this effect). The buyer with cold feet then backed out blaming his wife "wouldn't let him". Alex then sold the car to a Dr. in PA. who had a collection of cars for $32,000. Alex was surprised he sold the car to me because the Dr. originally said he would never sell it. Alex drove the car to the Dr.'s garage where it sat for a while. The Dr. never titled the car. The Dr. then consigned the car and the rest of his car collection through Fuzzy Motor's in Harleysville, PA. Fuzzy Dice marketed the car on Ebay for $38,000 which didn't sell. The 928 was the last of his collection for sale. The Dr. then took the car off the market for a while saying he would just keep it. He then went back to Fuzzy Dice and said to he was open to offers. I bought the car from Fuzzy Dice this week for $25,000. The car now resides in Charlotte, NC where I expect it will stay for a long time. Alex is looking through his files and going to try to supply me with more paperwork on the car, since I got none from Fuzzy Dice. He was a great help on the phone today and seemed to really car about the car and where it ended up.

Saga complete.

Interesting story. Many people have been wondering about it.

In my opinion you have one of the most desireable 928's in the country and got it for fair price.

Congrats. I hope you will drive it, as opposed to becoming a curator, and get great enjoyment!

I agree, thanks for the history, now we need a 720p video walk around/under/in/drive.

Skipp,

Great Score, Congrats!!

If Jim feels it needs some of the fuel lines/hoses replaced have him call me (or you can call too). I have a few brand new NLA fuel lines for it here in my personal stash, would be happy to donate them to this "time capsule"....only one request...be sure to bring it up to Sharks in the Mountains 2012 in June. :-)

You could take US 321 all the way up to the Boone/Beech area...and as you probably know a great road and drive for a performance car, especially a V8 928 :-) OH, and not as "busy and dangerous" as the Interstates...less chance of any road rash on that beauty!

OR, you could trailer it...but it's only 120 miles or so from center of Charlotte.. :-)

Cheers,

Dave

Hope you bring it up for the Frenzy get together- will it be driven some or kept for near-home runs and documenting the breed?

One of the online sites- cars dot com I think has a low mile S3 for $29.9 and a collector/euro car dealer in PA does is well, though I think the latter is in the forties. So, great acquisition from a comparative, if not investment perspective.

Thank you for sharing the story with us!

Thats about what I spent to wake up blue82 after 2 plus decades of slumber in 2008. She had 3.4k miles at the time. Did everything but replace the tires.

$25k was a very good buy IMHO! When they told me they had a $30k offer I told them they better get that money RIGHT NOW! I told them $27k or $28k would be a fair price. So, I think $25k was a great buy!

Beautiful & welcome to the Community. Clearly this car finally made it from the dealer/flipper to an enthusiast's garage. Congrats.
