The seats are hard and the ride is not as smooth. It would be a close race between the two (5.0L). It has some of the same parts as the pre 86' 928 so you don't have to pay extra for the yellow box with a horse on it. It's all the rubber parts you have to worry about. I would not say it is as reliable as the 928 only because of the vapor lock problem you may encounter but I bought it last Feb. and it has not left me stranded. What I have seen is the previous owners do not replace any parts they drive it till it stops and the sell it. To change the timing belt you do not have to remove the engine.
If you want a car that drives like a go-cart with a big engine and have everyone look at you than it's a good choice.

Looks like a fantastic project Lonnie, what's wrong with it?

Agree. That really looks like a cool project! Poor 328..

I can't speak for the 308 and 328's as I haven't worked on them.. I can say that my 360 is a piece of cake compared to my 79 928 to work on. Italians made it easy. As far as the interior.. much higher quality than my 928.. pieces are actually aluminum. After owning a 928 and working on it.. you can own and work on ANYTHING.

Btw.. I didn't believe it when I first started Fcar ownership.. but most late model owners don't know a baseball cap from a hubcap. They just cut the check and wonder why it's so expensive to own.

Yup, definitely a different demographic. A side effect is that I haven't found the late model online groups to be very supportive of those who prefer to work on their own cars. I assume that it's a different story for the older models, but I've never really looked into it.

Gary, they're not supportive at all. The average answer is: "take it to the stealership for a scan" (and get it up the rear... ) Mostly the mechanics that frequent fchat that help with odd questions.

btw.. maser looks nice! :-)

Sadly I think much of the appeal of F-cars is as a trophy an obvious statement that you spent a lot of money.....which also is reflected in the attitude about repairs costs....Some seem to like bragging about their $10,000 service etc. No problem because I can afford it !!! Did I introduce you to my wife ? She is younger than my daughter, check out her $8,000 *****..........

Very pretty car, but they are not built to the same standards as a 928 IMHO.

One of our local 928 guys, has both, and he is the first to say it is not as fast as his 928.

I agree there is an element of that... this could also be said of the Porsche brand as well. ;-) I know a few guys with base model 911's that convey the attitude above. Kinda come off douchey... Never understood it: "I'm smart enough to make $x00,000.00's a year buy I can't figure out how to put oil in this thing... can someone get that light switch for me..."

Besides no self respecting Playmate is going to go to a photoshoot with $8,000 *****... a decent DDD pair costs at least $15k! ;-) And for reference...

Lonnie, that's really a cool looking project you got!

I like the 328s! Unfortunately, I've never been in one. They have a cool interior that I just love. I imagine them to have a real authentic feeling. The K-jetronic on the other hand really doesn't interest me.

The reason I went more towards a 928 than certain other cars I like is because it's a car that CAN really be driven (even into the ground...). So many 328s don't seem to have many miles on them. I assumed because when people want to drive them they are not working...

Both Ferrari and Porsche have one thing in common, I really don't like their new cars much... Actually one reason I ended up with a 928, was because I couldn't find any new cars I really liked...

Good choice JPR. I spent the better part of a day with 308/328 specialist David Fineberg (who is as well respected as Earl and Wally combined) who schooled me up on the older F cars. I will just say that it is not cheap in parts to do a mechanical restoration on one of those cars. It makes 928s look very easy to own. Similarly, when they are all sorted out they will run well for some time. I would take up bird watching or knitting before owning an '80s F car...
