Default No AC ? Anyone in Arlington/Mansfield with R12 gauges?

Is this a Coincidence? No AC at same time as lower left bulb in cluster blinks?

In short, driving to work and AC stops blowing cold and at the same time I notice the backlight for the lower left most area of the instrument cluster is flickering.

Here is what I have checked thus far

1. When press AC button on and off the cooling fan kicks in, can feel compressor engage

2. If turn headlights on and then adjust the brightness of dash lights the lower left one does not flicker like it does when all exterior lights are off.

The two issues may not be related...

I have checked fuse # 6 for the AC and it is good. Couldnt see where there were any other fuses or relays for it..

Stumped...

Disconnect your pod connectors and see what happens.

If the compressor engages, you have ac. Is your heater valve opening at those uncool times? Is any cold air coming out of the centre vent then?

OK, confirmed, the compressor is not engaging when the AC button is pushed in. The button does light up and the radiator fan does turn on.

I swapped out the relay on the HVAC control unit with a new one per Dwaynes write up also.

Anyone in Arlington/Mansfield have a R12 gauge and hose kit who could drop by and check to make sure I have enough R12 in the system?

Heat works fine.

Slid the HVAC control unit to make sure it is going through the proper steps, i.e. recirc, dash, floor, etc. and all is good.

Gonna run through the rest of Dwaynes checks tomorrow.

NAPA has a very good set of brass bodied Mastertech gauges for something like $100.

Just bought two sets, one for 12, one for 134.
