Default Alarm help

My alarm is driving me and everyone I know, don't know and about to meet nuts.
How can I disconnect the factory alarm in a '80 (I assume)?
I have read many of the post and most are for later model cars.
I know I am not alone out there on this one and last night at a inclosed garage at a shopping mall was the last straw!

Cheers!

Make a female ended jumper wire.

Unplug Z plug, located approximately at center bottom of CE panel, beneath the three red wires that plug into the panel just above.

Put a piece of tape over the Z plug, tuck it out of the way.

Link terminal Z1 with Z6 using the jumper. Good to go.

Sitting in the passenger seat, facing the exposed male terminals on panel, pattern is as follows:

Z3 Z6
Z2 Z5
Z1 Z4

This is for cars up to and including 83. Not beyond.

NOTE the very last line in the attachement below:

I disconnected the connector at the hatch switch. I suppose my hatch was not sitting as low as it needs to, and the alarm would react to heat expansion during the day, and drive everyone crazy.

I've since adjusted my hatch position, but I left the connector disconnected, because I don't want to deal with it.

Does anyone really give a sh*t when a car alarm goes off anyway?

Going off is one thing, solved usually by cleaning all three switches and sometimes needing to disassemble and clean the backs of the locks. Never put graphite in these locks, btw.

Drawing down the battery is the more maddening situation for me. Again two ways to solve, clean it all up or bypass.

Ok, thank you all so much, but where are the lettered fuses?
All of the fuses (passenger foot well are numbered) Also where are the alarm sensors. I agree the alarm is only good for scaring dogs and cats, so how do I kill this thing?

???

There are no fuses to deal with on this.

You must focus your effort on the plugs. Pull the colored plug labeled Z on the bottommost row of the panel, located approximately equidistant from right and left, ie, in the center but down low.

Should be a black plug, with only 6 electrodes on it, as opposed to the rest which have 8 electrodes.

Does that make sense?

Here, I'll show you for the 1984... DO NOT JUMP Z4 to Z6, which is what I've done below for the 1984 ONLY (if you look very closely you can see the terminal nomenclature embossed on the CE panel). You jump Z1 to Z6 instead for 1980

The three heavy red wires are shown simply for location, the black Z plug is below them, you will see it.

I know this is an old post but I wanted to thank Landseer for his images and post. I just put the jumpers in my '83 at Z1->Z6 and it worked great. I've been having problems with the alarm randomly setting itself. I've also had problems with the car going completely dead while I'm driving down the road... like someone turned off the fuel pump! Happened 4x over the course of a couple months. I'd come back later and it'd start up. I'm hoping that the two are related but we'll see. It might be two unrelated problems but at least I fixed one of them.

John:

You've probably fixed it. Besides sounding the horn, the alarm system also disables the fuel pump so that the car cannot be started. Disabled the alarm in my '82 shortly after I purchased it in '94 after it left me stranded in downtown SF one too many times. No problems (at least with the alarm) since.

Anyone know if Z1-Z6 is the magic ticket for defeating the alarm on an '81 too? Thanx!

No, slightly different.

For 85 remove the panel.
Tucked behind is a flat connector, I think an 8-pin.

You can bridge the alarm at that connector.
Unplug it.
The end associated with / leading-to the CE panel is the one that is important.
This is the female end.

Locate and connect:
Red/black wire, 0.5mm dia, terminal 4 of the connector
Yellow wire, 1.0mm dia, terminal 1 of the connector

Can be done with a bridge wire., but the challenge is finding a pair of male ends that fit. Alternatively, one can snip them as them as they lead to the terminal and connect them directly. If you do it that way, leave enough wire to be able to cleanly reconnect. I hate cutting the harnesses, but have done it on one of mine.

At the CE panel, the red/black wire can be seen coming out of the plug B, terminal 23.

At the CE panel, the yellow wire emerges from plug F, terminal 25.

So, you could rig a jumper between those two terminals on the front of the panel, instead, but I find that more complicated without having the little pick tools to disassemble the electrodes from the plug connectors.

This is all verifiable on wiring diagram for ABS / Alarm for 85.

landseer, thanks for your quick and detailed reply. I will try this even though i don't totally understand it. You wouldn't have the same kind of picture illustration for the '85 as you did for vanster's '80 because i am not good with electrical stuff. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words.
Thanks, Klaus

For this, I think you can loosen the panel without taking off any plugs.

Behind it is the flat 8 pin connector, and I think its the only one.
You will know it by the fact that yellow will be at terminal one, and red/black wire at terminal 4.
The terminals are marked somewhere on the connector.

I can't seem to find pictures of this in my folders. Can disassemble and take some if absolutely nec.
