Maybe Bad brake pressure regulator, you have 2 diagonal brake circuits in a pre 84 ( IIRC) car, and failure on one side will give this BRAKE CIRCUIT [PRESSURE ] error.

Are you referring to duel M/C if I had a failure it should be evident in breaking performance. Brakes are rock solid no fade in pedal pressure.

I found that the warning stays on by just turning the key or until the battery is disconnected. The event did not return so it maybe a bad switch or corroded connectors, need to look further into it.

It means that one of the brake light switches did not fire with the other. If there are no fluid losses or pedal changes, its almost certainly a switch failure, OR wiring related to a switch. Change both (VW/Audi part). Seal reservoir with gladwrap, change one switch at a time (24mm wrench), DO NOT Overtighten, you shouldnt need to bleed the brakes. Remove gladwrap. Disconnecting the rear switch wiring temporarily will leave you with brake lights, but no warning. Might be a good time to remove and clean the reservoir, and replace the grommets - couple of $ from an MB outlet, made by ATE.
