Default Mr Clean Magic Eraser?

While I was washing the car this weekend, i was looking for a sponge to clean off the bug junk. All I could find was a Mr Clean 'Magic Eraser' sponge. So I tried it and it worked amasing at getting the bug junk off the nose, plate, and the mirror covers. So I tried it on the wheels and it worked great there too.

Agreed that it is a very capable cleaner around the house, but what grit sandpaper does melamine foam equate to?

Concur... be careful. If it can clean soap scum off of shower tiles and the ring around your swimming pool with one wipe, just imagine what it can do to your paint.

No way I would use that on painted surfaces.

I've read it works on cleaning leather. I have never tried it though.

My guess would be around 1000-1200.

Some audiophiles use it to clean the stylus on their cartridge. It works.

I use it on my race car to remove rubber from the paint but I'd never use it on my street cars.

That should be warning enough, those guys are nuts.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Melamine_foam

Not much other technical information in a casual google search. It does appear to be abrasive, and repeated used or heavy use can take the paint off metal or walls, or the color out of leather.

Good results reported on glass, tires, and rubber trim.

Good results with some caution on most of the rest of interiors. Some commented about using it with APC (some kind of detailing cleaner).

I wonder if polishing pads are made from a similar foam?

I read here on Rennlist about how great it was to clean leather. I tried it and I wasn't impressed. I won't use it on leather again becasue it seems to dry it out a bit. I think it would probably work very well on vinyl. I would not try it on painted surfaces, it will dull the shine.
